*7603 TUMUT TO COOTAMUNDRA RAIL LINK—Mr Daryl Maguire asked the Minister for Transport, and<br />

Minister for the Illawarra—<br />

(1) Will the State Government re-investigate the reopening <strong>of</strong> the Tumut to Cootamundra rail link?<br />

(2) Is it possible that such a link from Tumut could terminate at Tumblong at a road⁄rail interchange?<br />

Answer—<br />

I am advised:<br />

A number <strong>of</strong> studies have been undertaken since 1998 looking at the proposal to reopen this line. <strong>No</strong>ne <strong>of</strong><br />

these studies have produced a financial business case to support reopening the line.<br />

The line's status is non-operational and there is currently no plan to change the status <strong>of</strong> this line. Rail<br />

Infrastructure Corporation is not planning any further investigation, however, the Corporation will<br />

consider any serious commercial proposal to upgrade the line to return it to operational status, including<br />

any proposal for operations between Tumut and Tumblong.<br />
