Minister for the Illawarra—
(1) Has the RTA yet completed investigations into whether a speed camera is warranted on the northern
approach to Broadwater on the Pacific Highway (Question 4026)?
(2) If so, what was the outcome of the RTA's investigations?
(3) If not, why has the outcome of these investigations by the RTA been delayed?
Answer—
I am advised that the Roads and Traffic Authority has completed crash investigations of the Pacific
Highway, Broadwater. I am further advised that the investigation determined that road safety issues in
this area are primarily related to heavy vehicles. As a result, a point-to-point enforcement length will be
implemented in this area as part of the program implementing 20 point-to-point lengths over the next two
years to target heavy vehicle speeding. This point-to-point enforcement length will extend from
Woodburn to Wardell along the Pacific Highway. I understand that point-to-point enforcement is intended
to supplement, rather than replace, police enforcement. Police enforce a wide range of offences including
speeding and for the safety of road users police can still conduct enforcement within the point-to-point
enforcement length.
