*7460 HOME CARE WAITING TIMES—Ms Clover Moore asked the Minister for Ageing, Minister for<br />
Disability Services, and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs—<br />
With respect to waiting times for Home and Community Care (HACC) services to support eligible people<br />
remain at home:<br />
(1) Has the Home Care Service closed its books for inner city home support and is it not accepting<br />
referrals or assessing people who need help?<br />
(2) If so, how long have its books been closed to new clients and when will new clients be accepted?<br />
(3) How does the Department <strong>of</strong> Ageing, Disability and Home Care ensure that people needing help are<br />
assessed and get help when there is no waiting list?<br />
(4) What other options are available for aged pensioners who cannot afford private cleaning or home<br />
support services?<br />
(5) What assessment has the NSW Government made <strong>of</strong> unmet need for home care services?<br />
(6) What plans does the Government have to expand these services?<br />
Answer—<br />
(1) to (3) The Home Service <strong>of</strong> NSW does not close its books for people to access services.<br />
While Home Care is the largest provider <strong>of</strong> Home and Community Care Program (HACC) services in the<br />
State, there are over 440 non-government organisations funded by the NSW Government to provide these<br />
services.<br />
In addition to the HACC Program, there are a number <strong>of</strong> other funding programs that support the delivery<br />
<strong>of</strong> community care services to frail older people, younger people with a disability and their carers.<br />
Access and intake for Home Care is coordinated by the Referral and Assessment Centre (RAC). When a<br />
Home Care branch cannot provide service due to the number <strong>of</strong> people requesting assistance, the RAC<br />
