Answer—<br />

(1) Yes, in July.<br />

(2) Approximately 80 wild dog baits were laid. Each bait is manufactured with 6mg <strong>of</strong> 1080 poison.<br />

(3) <strong>No</strong>. 1080 wild dog baits are manufactured from meat. Kangaroos and wallabies do not eat meat.<br />

*7437 REQUEST TO MEET WITH PUBLIC SCHOOL COMMUNITIES—Mr Andrew Constance asked the<br />

Minister for Education and Training, and Minister for Women—<br />

Why has there been no reply to numerous requests to the Minister's <strong>of</strong>fice seeking a meeting between the<br />

Bega and Bega West public school communities to discuss the merging <strong>of</strong> the schools onto the Bega<br />

Public School site utilising the Building the Education Revolution funding?<br />

Answer—<br />

I am advised that <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Training have held several meetings with<br />

community members from Bega and Bega West Public Schools and that members <strong>of</strong> those communities<br />

have been advised that the Department does not, in principle, oppose their decision to merge and combine<br />

their Building the Education Revolution funding. The normal processes for closure <strong>of</strong> a school are now<br />

being worked through.<br />

*7438 WORKERS COMPENSATION PREMIUMS—Mr Andrew Constance asked the Minister for Transport,<br />

and Minister for the Illawarra representing the Attorney General, Minister for Industrial Relations,<br />

Minister for Health, Minister for the Central Coast, Vice President <strong>of</strong> the Executive Council—<br />

Will the Minister review the plight <strong>of</strong> primary carers who employ private household staff to assist with<br />

the care <strong>of</strong> loved ones with disabilities being subjected to higher workers compensation premiums as a<br />

result <strong>of</strong> legislative changes introduced in May 2008?<br />

Answer—<br />

The question does not fall within the Industrial Relations portfolio. It should be directed to the<br />

appropriate Minister.<br />

*7439 RABBIT NUMBERS—CONGO—Mr Andrew Constance asked the Deputy Premier, Minister for<br />

Climate Change and the Environment, and Minister for Commerce—<br />

(1) Is the Minister aware <strong>of</strong> concerns <strong>of</strong> local residents <strong>of</strong> Congo about rabbits populating the adjoining<br />

national park?<br />

(2) Given the problems <strong>of</strong> rabbits, what is being done to rectify the problem?<br />

Answer—<br />

(1) I am advised that Congo residents are concerned about rabbits on all land tenures in their area.<br />

(2) The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) welcomes community action to develop a rabbit<br />

management plan to reduce rabbit numbers across all land tenures in the Congo area. A meeting <strong>of</strong><br />

interested parties was held on 9 September 2009 and included representatives from NPWS,<br />

Eurobodalla Shire Council and the <strong>South</strong> East Livestock Health and Pest Authority. The Authority<br />

agreed to lead the development <strong>of</strong> a rabbit management plan and the NPWS will be an active<br />

participant in the program.<br />

Training, and Minister for Women representing the Minister for Primary Industries, Minister for Energy,<br />

Minister for Mineral Resources, Minister for State Development—<br />

(1) Is the Minister aware <strong>of</strong> concerns <strong>of</strong> local residents <strong>of</strong> Congo about rabbits?<br />

(2) Given the problems <strong>of</strong> rabbits, what is being done to rectify the problem?<br />

Answer—<br />

(1) Yes.<br />

(2) Meetings have been held to address current issues with rabbit populations in the Eurobodalla Shire.<br />

Agreement has been made to implement a rabbit management program initially concentrating on<br />

known rabbit 'hot spots' including Congo.<br />
