LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
MONDAY 12 OCTOBER 2009
the Counselling Team at the Goonellabah Child and Family Health Service.
*7352 ALLOCATION OF POLICE RESOURCES—Mr Steve Cansdell asked the Minister for Planning, and
Minister for Redfern Waterloo representing the Minister for Police, Minister for Lands, and Minister for
Rural Affairs—
(1) Have NSW Police developed a model for the proper allocation of police resources to areas of need
and⁄or growth?
(2) If not why not?
Answer—
The NSW Police Force has advised me:
Operational policing resources are continually reviewed and allocated in accordance with a range of
criteria including workload, historical allocation, internal reviews, industrial agreements and government
commitments. While geographical size and population are taken into account, these factors in isolation
do not indicate the level or nature of policing requirements in a given area.
*7353 LIGHTS ON GRAFTON BRIDGE—Mr Steve Cansdell asked the Minister for Transport, and Minister
for the Illawarra—
(1) Is the Minister aware that lights on the Grafton bridge are being left on during daylight hours?
(2) At what time are the lights programmed to come on in the evening and switch off in the morning?
(3) What energy saving policies does the Government have in place to ensure this wasteful practice does
not continue?
Answer—
I am advised:
(1) There are lights on the walkway, the road way and the railway section of the Grafton Bridge over the
Clarence River.
The lights on the roadway are the responsibility of RTA, and are maintained by Country Energy
using similar practice as for street lighting.
The lights on the railway are under the responsibility of the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
The lights on the walkway are under the responsibility of the RTA. The RTA has contracted the
operation and maintenance of the lighting on the walkway to a local electrical contractor. The lights
operate by a light sensor and are programmed to turn off in daylight hours. The contractor tested the
lighting system on 1 October 2009 and found no faults in the system. The lights were not found to be
on during this day time inspection.
(2) The walkway lights are programmed to turn on when lighting is inadequate rather than at a specific
time. They operate by a light sensor to turn off in daylight hours.
(3) Regular testing (once per month) is undertaken by the contractor to ensure the lights are functioning
properly.
*7354 VISITS TO SOLAR THERMAL ELECTRICITY GENERATORS—Mr Peter Debnam asked the
Premier, and Minister for the Arts—
Since 23 September 2008, has the Premier visited any solar thermal electricity generator anywhere?
Answer—
No.
*7355 VICTORIA ROAD COLLAPSE—Mr Peter Debnam asked the Minister for Finance, Minister for
Infrastructure, Minister for Regulatory Reform, and Minister for Ports and Waterways representing the
Treasurer—
In relation to the Victoria Road collapse at Bellevue Hill:
Given your advice there is no provision in the 2009-10 Budget for the cost of repairs to this road and
your drawing of attention to a media release by Sydney Water entitled "Early views out on Bellevue Hill
incident" (Question 6561), does this mean Sydney Water is denying responsibility for the collapse and
the Government is withholding funding from Woollahra Council?
Answer—
I'm advised:
