As these figures are a snapshot <strong>of</strong> a point in time, they show the numbers <strong>of</strong> casual teachers employed on<br />

a particular day. The length <strong>of</strong> each casual engagement varies from 1 day to less than 4 weeks, and over<br />

the course <strong>of</strong> a year a casual teacher could be engaged once or have successive casual engagements.<br />

*7318 HUNTER WATER—ANNUAL REBATE—Mr Greg Piper asked the Minister for Water, and Minister for<br />

Regional Development—<br />

As current government policy sees retirement village pensioners miss out on Hunter Water's $199 annual<br />

rebate, will the Minister immediately fix this anomaly by acknowledging that these pensioners are<br />

"customers" through payment <strong>of</strong> water rates within their village levy?<br />

Answer—<br />

The NSW Office <strong>of</strong> Water is currently undertaking a review <strong>of</strong> pensioner concessions.<br />

*7319 PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLE CRITERIA—Mr Greg Piper asked the Minister for Transport, and Minister<br />

for the Illawarra—<br />

Why does Category 1 <strong>of</strong> the Private Hire Vehicle Criteria for Unrestricted Private Hire Vehicles require a<br />

minimum wheelbase <strong>of</strong> 2,800 mm while Categories 2 and 3 require only a minimum <strong>of</strong> 2,700 mm?<br />

Answer—<br />

I am advised:<br />

Wheelbase restrictions were amended to encourage the use <strong>of</strong> more environmentally friendly hire car<br />

vehicles and to allow for the use <strong>of</strong> luxury vehicles as defined by the Commonwealth Government's<br />

luxury tax threshold.<br />

*7320 COMBINED-CYCLE GAS GENERATORS—Mr Greg Piper asked the Minister for Education and<br />

Training, and Minister for Women representing the Minister for Primary Industries, Minister for Energy,<br />

Minister for Mineral Resources, Minister for State Development—<br />

Given the 60% reduction in carbon emission from combined-cycle gas generators and their proven ability<br />

to generate base load power, will the Government insist on gas as the fuel for all new power generators in<br />

the State?<br />

Answer—<br />

The developers <strong>of</strong> all new power stations will make decisions about the technology and fuel type for the<br />

next power station in the knowledge that they will operate under the emissions cap set by the<br />

Commonwealth Government's proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).<br />

*7321 ENHANCED PRIMARY CARE PROGRAM—Mr Ge<strong>of</strong>f Provest asked the Deputy Premier, Minister for<br />

Climate Change and the Environment, and Minister for Commerce representing the Attorney General,<br />

Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Health, Minister for the Central Coast, Vice President <strong>of</strong><br />

the Executive Council—<br />

In relation to the Enhanced Primary Care program:<br />

What is the total number <strong>of</strong> patients utilising this service in the Tweed electorate year to date?<br />

Answer—<br />

The Enhanced Primary Care Program is a mechanism whereby General Practitioners are able to refer to a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> Allied Health Services under Commonwealth Funding via the Medicare Agreement.<br />
