Winter2013 Les Nouvelles 19 Shape up to music with Jayne and Julie Looking for a new you in 2013? If you want to get fit and healthy this year, don’t do it alone. Two wonderful inspirational keep fit instructors can help you. Jayne Renouf and Julie Pinel are by far the most famous identical twins in St Martin and I am sure that at some time or other, St Martin’s parishioners have seen these ladies running around the Parish lanes Running is part of Jayne and Julie’s fitness regime, but they have always had an interest in fitness music and dance. They trained from an early age in all types of dance and have danced and choreographed professionally in theatre and television. Jayne and Julie have been teaching group exercise for over 30 years (they really don’t look old enough, do they?). With their Exercise to Music qualification, they teach a class called “Shape up to Music”. Two classes per week are held at St Martin’s School, a Tuesday evening class from 6.30 to 7.30 which is aimed at a beginner/intermediate level and a Sunday morning class from 10.30 to 11.30 aimed at intermediate/advanced levels. The weekly classes cater for all age groups, all fitness levels and for both women and men. The benefit of having two instructors is that they can always offer different options or levels for the class to follow and usually Jayne, who is the far more vocal of the two (and the older twin by 20 minutes!), offers a high impact aerobic workout, whilst Julie, who has a very calming influence, carries out a low impact routine for the class to follow. Whilst they believe that exercise should be fun and always go to the upmost to get people laughing, they do take everything that they teach very seriously. Any feedback that they receive from the class is gladly welcomed! The girls get involved with many community events on the Island. They go into schools on a voluntary basis teaching classes relating to various health and dance topics, teaching nursery pupils through to Year 6 at primary level and also secondary school students. They have experience teaching special needs children and have also taught Adult Education classes for Highlands College. Recently they taught an Egyptian dance to a group of Year 3 pupils who were studying Egypt and also choreographed a Bollywood dance routine for a group of ladies for a variety show! They also choreograph and take part in the dance routines for the St Martin’s Battle of Flowers float. I attend the Sunday morning intermediate/advanced Shape up to Music fitness class at St Martin’s School and Right: “Shape Up to Music” Sunday Class By Leslie Allo Right: Jayne and Julie other levels of class are available. I have to be honest and say that the whole hour is hard work but full of fun – it’s a way of exercising with a smile; there’s lots of laughter and fun. You will not be judged, only helped if required and you can work to the best of your own ability. Shorts or tracky bottoms and tee-shirt, together with a pair of training shoes and a bottle of water are all that is required. I come out feeling energised, having worked my body and increased my laughter lines! Jayne and Julie would love to meet you and introduce you to Shape up to Music.
