FRED A. METTLER, JR., M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Fred Mettler is currently Professor and Chairman of the
Department of Radiology at the University of New Mexico School
of
Medicine.
He graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics from Columbia
University and in 1970 he received an M.D. degree from Thomas
Jefferson University. He performed a rotating internship at the
University of Chicago and subsequently completed a radiology and
nuclear medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He
received a Master's Degree in Public Health from Harvard University
in 1975.
Dr. Mettler has authored over 200 scientific publications,
including 14 books. He currently is the United States
Representative to the United Nations for Radiation Effects and
is
one of the 13 members of the International Commission on Radiation
Protection. He recently was the Health Effects Team Leader of the
International Chernobyl Project and also serves as a consultant to
the World Health Organization.
He lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife Gloria and
two sons,
Erik and Larsen.
