The Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund
OVERSEAS TREATMENT FOR CHORNOBYL CHILDREN
- CCRF brought 14 Chornobyl children to the United States for medical care.
- CCRF helped to bring 51 children to Israel for cancer treatrnent.
COOPERATION WITH U.S. & OVERSEAS AGENCIES
- Authorized by the Ukrainian Parliament (Supreme CouncID to coordinate all
U.S. medical aid to Chornobyl victims in Ukraine.
-Invited to assist in the distribution and oversight of medical aid procured by
Project Hope and Abbott Laboratories under the initiative of President Bush,
October 1991.
- Aided CITIHOPE International in delivering 70 tons of medical supplies to
Minsk, to aid Belarussian children affected by radiation from Chornobyl,
November 1991.
- Officially sponsored and coordinated speaking tours for Dr. Yuri Spizhenko,
the Ukrainian Minister of Health; Deputy Volodymyr Yavorivsky, Chairman of
the Chornobyl Commission; and Dr. Zoreslava Shkiryak-Nizhnik, Director of the
Kiev Research Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology.
MEDICAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
- CCRF developed an exchange progrom for Ukrainian and American
physicians; 106 U.S. physicians to date have travelled to Ukraine to train loco!
doctors in Western medical techniques. Eight Ukrainian health professionals
have undergone medical training in the U.S. through internships arranged by
CCRF.
PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
-CCRF has presented numerous educational seminars, vi/orkshops and
briefings In the follov»^ing cities: Albany, Allentow^n, BaltirDore, Binghamton,
Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit, Flint, Hartford, Hempstead (Long Island), Los
Angeles, Minneapolis, New Haven, numerous sites In New Jersey, New York
City, ParrTKi (Ohio), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rochester, San Diego, San
Francisco, Sarasota, Syracuse, Washington, D.C., Waterbury.
