When the river police call. compatriots should stop to be
searched. If a boat fails to stop. a shot will be fired to attract
attention. Honest people's vessels will stop. while the VC boats
will probably try to escape. Honest people have nothing to fear.
DON'T TRY TO RUN AWAY OR DRIFT TO THE BANKS. Patrol
boats will sink any vessel which tries to hide or escape.
It is regrettable that all boats must be searched. However.
the search will be faster if compatriots will readily show their
legal papers and cargoes to the river police. To prevent difficulties
or arrest, every traveler on the waterways must have his identify
card and other necessary papers. Those of our compatriots who
live along the water ways can help if they immediately inform the
patrol boats or local authorities when they see any VC boats or
soldiers in their areas.
The Government must also enforce curfew in many sectors to
protect lives and property. Compatriots must know the curfew
times in their areas, especially on the rivers. Travel on waterways
should not be done during curfew periods. because travelers may
be mistaken for VC. In case of emergency. such as evacuation of
wounded or ill persons, a light must be brightly shown during travel
on rivers during curfew times. In all cases, obey the river patrol
boats. If it is necessary, the patrol will help with the wounded
or ill people.
