CEmOCs should provide all the BEmOC six services along with the follow<strong>in</strong>g 24-<br />

hour services throughout the year:<br />

1. Availability of blood <strong>and</strong> blood transfusion facility<br />

2. Facility <strong>for</strong> Caesarean section <strong>for</strong> delivery of foetus <strong>in</strong> emergency cases.<br />

Everyth<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> CEmOC PLUS<br />

Assisted ventilation<br />

Community-Managed <strong>Maternal</strong> <strong>and</strong> Newborn Care<br />

is systematic assessment of health-care needs <strong>in</strong> practice population, identification of<br />

community health problems, implementation of systematic <strong>in</strong>terventions <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

target population (eg, modification of practice procedures, improvement of liv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

conditions) <strong>and</strong> monitor<strong>in</strong>g effect of changes to ensure that health services are<br />

improved <strong>and</strong> congruent with community needs. Community-oriented primary care<br />

teams design specific <strong>in</strong>terventions to address priority health problems. Team<br />

consist<strong>in</strong>g of primary health care workers <strong>and</strong> community members assesses<br />

resources <strong>and</strong> develops strategic plans to deal with problems that have been<br />

identified. Community-oriented primary care <strong>in</strong>tegrates <strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>and</strong> population<br />

based care, blend<strong>in</strong>g cl<strong>in</strong>ical skills of practitioner with epidemiology, preventive<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>and</strong> health promotion. By do<strong>in</strong>g so, it tries to m<strong>in</strong>imise separation between<br />

public health <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividual health care. (van Weel, De Maeseneer et al. 2008)<br />
