[STRPNEAG] S.pneumoniae Antigen - UR/CSF
Testing for Streptococcus pneumoniae antigen is performed
on a limited basis on cases of suspected meningitis &
septicemia. Criteria for performance include:
a. pretreatment of the patient with antibiotics prior to
specimen collection, or
b. other lab tests of the CSF which indicate bacterial meningitis
(high protein, low glucose, high cell count), or
c. positive gram stain of CSF consistent with the morphology
of S. pneumoniae.
This test will be rejected if the above criteria are not met.
