SPECIAL HANDLING: Recommended procedure for collection without
inducing hemolysis: Use 18-gauge needle with
attached infusion tubing. Place tourniquet
lightly around upper arm, puncture antecubital
vein with as little trauma as possible.
Release tourniquet and clamp tubing off as
soon as blood return is seen. First collect 3
mL blood in a red tube with the rubber stopper
off, followed by a 5 mL collection in a dark
green tube with the stopper off
