TUBE OR CONTAINER: Dark Green (heparin)<br />

SPECIAL HANDLING: Recommended procedure for collection without<br />

inducing hemolysis: Use 18-gauge needle with<br />

attached infusion tubing. Place tourniquet<br />

lightly around upper arm, puncture antecubital<br />

vein with as little trauma as possible.<br />

Release tourniquet and clamp tubing off as<br />

soon as blood return is seen. First collect 3<br />

mL blood in a red tube with the rubber stopper<br />

off, followed by a 5 mL collection in a dark<br />

green tube with the stopper off<br />

SPECIMEN VOLUME: 1 mL<br />

MINIMUM VOLUME: 0.1 mL<br />

TEST AVAILABILITY: Daily<br />

REFERENCE RANGE: Values obtained between 5-15 mg/dL should be<br />

interpreted with caution since such variables<br />
