"atypical" cholinesterase variant, in patients
who have low result of serum or plasma
cholinesterase assay, and may be at risk of apnea
when given succinylcholine muscle relaxant

SPECIMEN REQUIRED: Plasma
TUBE OR CONTAINER: Blue (Citrate) AND FSP tube (obtain from lab)
SPECIAL HANDLING: Draw 2 FULL citrate tubes and 1 FULL FSP tube;
tubes must be FULL to ensure proper anticoagulant
to blood ratio; Invert gently 3-4
times to prevent clotting; centrifuge
immediately and freeze plasma
SPECIMEN VOLUME: 3 full tubes
Testing volume: 5 mL of PLASMA
