FACULTY<br />

Johan P. Reyneke M.Ch.D., FCMFOS(SA), Ph.D.<br />

Johan Reyneke qualified as a Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon at the University of Pretoria in 1979 and<br />

has since been in private practice in Johannesburg. He never broke his link with academics and has<br />

been an active part time member of the Department of Maxillofacial and Oral <strong>Surgery</strong> at the University<br />

of Witwatersrand where he received an honorary Professorship in 1990. At the moment he holds three<br />

international Professorships. He was appointed as Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and<br />

Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong> at the University of Oklahoma in 2000 and in 2004 also as Clinical Professor at the<br />

University of Florida, Gainesville, U.S.A. Prof. Reyneke is an Associate Professor in the department of<br />

Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong> at the University of Monterrey, Mexico and is Director of the Centre for<br />

<strong>Orthognathic</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong> at Sunninghill Hospital, Sunninghill. In 2003, he was awarded the Fellowship in<br />

Maxillofacial and Oral <strong>Surgery</strong> by peer review in the College of Medicine of South Africa and obtained<br />

his PhD at the University of Tampere, Finland in March 2006.<br />

Prof. Reyneke has a passion for <strong>Orthognathic</strong> and Reconstructive facial surgery and has presented<br />

numerous courses on the subject. He has published more than 64 papers in referenced journals and has also written several chapters in<br />

well known text books in Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong>. He has published several text books on <strong>Orthognathic</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong> and the Second<br />

Edition of his book “Essentials of <strong>Orthognathic</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong>” was published in October 2010. A series of International courses, “<strong>Orthognathic</strong><br />

<strong>Surgery</strong> – Occlusion and Beyond” is being presented by him in countries such as Italy, Brazil, Korea, Denmark, Israel, Sweden, Australia, New<br />

Zealand, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Arabian Emmirates and the U.S.A. He was invited to be the keynote speaker on <strong>Orthognathic</strong> <strong>Surgery</strong> at the<br />

International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Bangalore, India in 2007 and elected to take part in the “Great Debate” with<br />

Professor Peter Ward Booth of the United Kingdom at the conference. He is currently serving on the Research Committee of the International<br />

Association of Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong>.


FACULTY<br />

Dr. Steven M. Sullivan<br />

Dr. Sullivan is a native of Colorado and completed his dental training at Baylor College of Dentistry<br />

in 1983. He entered private dental practice for one year before starting oral and maxillofacial surgery<br />

training at the University of Oklahoma. He completed his residency in 1988 and then undertook<br />

additional training at the West of Scotland Plastic and Oral <strong>Surgery</strong> Unit in Glasgow. Following his<br />

training in Scotland, he joined the University of Melbourne and the Royal Children’s Hospital as a<br />

surgery fellow in the Plastic and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong> Unit.<br />

In 1989, he was appointed to the faculty at the University of Michigan and the following year recruited<br />

to Hennipen County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota to organize the Maxillofacial Trauma<br />

Unit within the Department of Dentistry.<br />

Dr. Sullivan returned to the University of Oklahoma in 1992, where he became Program Director<br />

and Interim Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong>. Currently, he is Professor and<br />

Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong>. Dr. Sullivan served on the examination<br />

committee for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial <strong>Surgery</strong> and has been President of the Oklahoma Society of Oral and Maxillofacial<br />

Surgeons and the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.<br />

His interests are in corrective jaw surgery, TMJ reconstruction and dental implant reconstruction. He lectures nationally and internationally on<br />

these topics.
