46 BUILDING MENTAL WEALTH SEMINAR This event, held on the 21st November 2011, highlighted the research activities and outcomes of the team investigators in the Building Mental Wealth NHMRC Capacity grant. This grant aims to improve the mental health outcomes for Indigenous Australians. At the inaugural seminar Professor Aileen Moreton-Robinson, Professor of Indigenous Studies at the Queensland University of Technology gave a keynote address on the topic of “Building Indigenous Research Capacity”. This seminar was aimed at building the capacity of individual researchers in the BMW grant, and to assist with the dissemination of their project findings to academics, clinicians, service providers, and the community. This was an important forum to also build partnerships in the area of Indigenous Mental Health and Wellbeing. PSYCHOLOGY FOURTH YEAR RESEARCH SEMINAR The School of Psychology and Speech Pathology held the 2011 Psychology Fourth Year Research Seminar in July 2011. This seminar provided an overview of the research activities undertaken by groups of fourth year psychology students under the supervision of a staff member, and provided an opportunity for interaction among staff, supervisors and students. Each group of students presented on their research project, providing an overview of their project and current stage of progress. This seminar provided an avenue for students to develop their oral presentation skills and to obtain feedback from staff and students on their research. SPEECH PATHOLOGY HONOURS RESEARCH MINICONFERENCE This is an annual event where Speech Pathology Honours students present their research findings. This invitation extends to all Speech Pathology students, community Speech Pathologists and Health Science staff in general. Each year a variety of projects are undertaken and 2011 was no exception with research topics including autism, aphasia, dyslexia, childhood apraxia of speech, and stuttering. PSYCHOLOGY HONOURS RESEARCH SEMINARS The School of Psychology and Speech Pathology held the 2011 Honours Research Seminars across three afternoons in July and August 2011. These seminars provided an overview of the research activities in the School’s honours program, and offered an opportunity for interaction among staff, supervisors and students. Each honours student presented on their research project, providing an overview of their project and current stage of progress. These seminars provided an avenue for students to develop their oral presentation skills and to obtain feedback from staff and students on their research. The 36 students presented on a range of research topics including perfectionism, body image, psychological sense of community, life satisfaction, mental health problems and pro-environmental behaviour.
