• Typical (traditional) authentication on <strong>HP</strong>-<strong>UX</strong><br />
requires 2 components that are “loosely” tied<br />
together:<br />
1.Username and Password<br />
2.A valid “password entry” for the user that includes a uid<br />
& gid number, home directory, login shell, etc.<br />
• Authentication is handled through the Plugable<br />
Authentication Module (PAM)<br />
• “Password Entry” retrieval is controlled using the<br />
Name Service Switch (NSS)<br />
