equipment. You need a prescription from your doctor.<br />

You pay a co-pay or a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cost.<br />

Medicare <strong>HMO</strong>s cover ostomy and diabetes supplies. Usually<br />

<strong>the</strong>y do not cover bandages, rubber gloves, and irrigating kits.<br />

Medicare <strong>HMO</strong>s only pay <strong>for</strong> durable medical equipment (DME)<br />

that you medically need—like a hospital bed, walker, or wheelchair<br />

that you need because <strong>of</strong> an illness or injury. They also cover oxygen<br />

tanks and ventilators. You usually pay about 30% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cost.<br />

Medicare does not cover air conditioners, dehumidifiers, or<br />

home modifications.<br />

Some Medicare <strong>HMO</strong>s cover part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> hearing aids.<br />
