Area Descripti<strong>on</strong><br />

This study area includes the Waymart wind facility, which sits atop the North-South ridge<br />

running al<strong>on</strong>g the line separating Wayne County from Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties in<br />

Northeast Pennsylvania. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> 43 turbine (65 MW, 213 ft hub height) facility was erected in 2003,<br />

and can be seen from many locati<strong>on</strong>s in the study area and especially from the towns <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Waymart,<br />

which sits East <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the facility, and Forest City, which straddles Wayne and Susquehanna<br />

Counties North <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the facility. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> study area is dominated topographically by the ridgeline <strong>on</strong><br />

which the wind turbines are located, but c<strong>on</strong>tains rolling hills and many streams, lakes, and<br />

natural p<strong>on</strong>ds. Because <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the undulating landscape, views <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the wind facility can be<br />
