A point-of-sale RST exemption for certain ENERGY
STAR qualified household products purchased, rented or
leased after July 19, 2007 and before July 20, 2008. The
exemption will apply to refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes
washers, freezers, dehumidifiers, room air conditioners,
and qualifying ENERGY STAR light bulbs and decorative
light strings. The RST exemption for qualifying ENERGY
STAR products is expected to provide approximately $36
million to Ontario consumers in 2007-08 and a further $15
million in 2008-09.

energy, micro-hydroelectric systems and geothermal
heating/cooling systems for residential applications.

It will also be advantageous for homeowners in this
province to produce some of their own power through an
arrangement known as "net metering." Net metering
permits electricity customers to offset some of the cost of
their individual electricity consumption by self-generating.
Net metering allows a grid-connected electricity customer
who installs their own renewable generation equipment to
return electricity to the grid for credit against
consumption, instead of having to store it in batteries. At
times when the customer's generation exceeds their
requirements, the excess goes into the grid. When the
customer's requirements exceed their generation, they
take power from the grid.

The Community Go Green Fund (CGGF) is a four year,
$6.6 million dollar program that provides funding for local
projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The CGGF is a component of the Ontario government’s
plan to fight global warming. Other initiatives include
investing in advanced research, clean technologies and
more public education.

Phase One of the Affordable Housing Energy Efficiency
Program will offer affordable housing providers up to
$850 per unit to help offset the incremental cost of
purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified products. Municipal
Service Managers will also deliver an education and
awareness campaign to affordable housing stakeholders
to raise awareness among housing providers, builders,
architects, developers and residents of energy efficiency
and energy-efficient product choices. Co-funded with
