New Firmware for Release for <strong>Olympus</strong> DS-7000 & DS-3500<br />
supports Metadata Import Function (MIF)<br />
Southend-on-Sea, 5 th of June 2013 - <strong>Olympus</strong> has worldwide released a<br />
new firmware for the hand-held recorders DS-7000 and DS-3500, which<br />
supports Metadata Import Function (MIF). MIF is a new and unique<br />
function that allows professionals to link selected metadata with the<br />
dictation file. Metadata provides information about one or more aspects<br />
of the dictation files.<br />
With a long standing history in the medical profession, <strong>Olympus</strong><br />

Mobile Dictation has never been so easy and precise<br />
MIF is a license-free firmware update for the DS-7000/3500 digital voice<br />
recorders (DVR). The purpose of this update is to introduce device level<br />
functionality that enables you, the integrator, to display and manipulate dictation<br />
metadata (i.e. patient data) from the handheld device. The MIF firmware update,<br />
accompanied with the <strong>Olympus</strong> SDK’s will provide you with all the tools<br />
necessary to integrate the DVR and your software solution with HL7 compliant<br />
medical systems to deliver a seamless medical dictation solution.<br />
By utilising an .xml-based system, it is also possible for this firmware update to<br />
be applied to many other sectors and industries for the purposes of providing<br />
additional, customisable information for professional dictation users such as job<br />
lists, unique reference numbers and more.<br />
Professional users of hand-held dictation devices in the healthcare or legal sector<br />

can link selected data such as medical record number, patient/client name or<br />
date of birth to a certain audio file. A barcode scanner to a patient/client ID is no<br />
more needed as the MIF connects and captures all the related data for you.<br />

The new feature allows for patient/client data to be captured without manual input<br />
and introduced into the dictation workflow. Mistakes or misunderstandings can be<br />
