3.6 Heritage and environmental impacts<br />

<strong>Feedback</strong> from members of the community included concerns about the impact of the project on heritage<br />

areas and sites of Concord and Haberfield/Ashfield, loss of trees and the impact on Powell’s Creek during<br />

construction and operation of the project. Concerns, comments, questions and suggestions have been<br />

grouped under headings: non-Aboriginal heritage, flora and fauna and drainage and flooding.<br />

3.6.1 Non-Aboriginal heritage<br />

Support for a heritage impact assessment to be carried out.<br />

Concern about the impact on a heritage listed dwelling located on the corner of Concord Road and<br />

Patterson Street.<br />

Concern the project impacts on three major state significant ‘garden heritage’ sites: Yasmar, the Bunyas<br />

and Ashfield Park.<br />

Concern about the impact on Yasmar one of the last remaining historical homes between Parramatta<br />

and Sydney. Comment that Yasmar is a State Heritage Register listed and State Government owned<br />

property.<br />

Concern about impact on Ashfield Park which is an item of environmental heritage, has been a public<br />

recreational facility since 1879 and is the most significant area of open space in the Ashfield LGA.<br />

Concern Ashfield Park is missing from the list of items of environmental heritage in Attachment B1 of the<br />

State Significant Infrastructure Application <strong>Report</strong> prepared by the WestConnex Delivery Authority.<br />

Request for the project to avoid all heritage items as listed in the Ashfield Local Environmental Plan.<br />

Request for Haberfield’s heritage character and unique architectural history to be preserved. Comment<br />

that Haberfield has been a heritage conservation area under the Ashfield Local Environmental Plan<br />

since 1985.<br />

Concern the project will separate the Northcote and Wolseley Street area from the remainder of the<br />

Haberfield Conservation Area causing a lack of cohesion in the suburb.<br />

Concern about impact on individual heritage homes and conservation areas along the project corridor.<br />

3.6.2 Flora and fauna<br />

Support for a detailed assessment to be carried out including potential impacts on flora and fauna, loss<br />

of tree canopy and impact on habitat for threatened species.<br />

Question how environmental impacts will be addressed and what remediation measures will be in place<br />

to address these issues?<br />

Concern about the impact on trees and gardens at the Yasmar site.<br />

Concern about the impact on the trees at Ashfield Park, including palm trees from the federation period.<br />

Concern about the impact on the trees at Reg Coady Reserve.<br />
