Dancing for a cause<br />

Kent State University to host Flash-A-Thon dance marathon<br />

Join Kent State University students for the first ever<br />

Flash-A-Thon dance marathon, sponsored by <strong>Akron</strong><br />

Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong> and Children’s Miracle Network<br />

<strong>Hospital</strong>s.<br />

Taking place April 6 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at<br />

the Kent State University Student Recreation and<br />

Wellness Center, the proceeds from this 12-hour<br />

marathon will benefit the Showers Family Center<br />

for Childhood Cancer & Blood Disorders at <strong>Akron</strong><br />

Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong>.<br />

“It’s a fun way to raise funds for such a worthwhile<br />

organization,” said Jackie Cornell, event co-chairperson<br />

and Kent State University senior. “Anyone from the<br />

community can join in.”<br />

“We’re so excited to have the patients there,” said<br />

Chrissie Seo, event co-chairperson and a senior at<br />

Kent State University. “We want them to enjoy their<br />

day and see that KSU students are thinking about<br />

them and trying to help other children in the hospital.”<br />

Registration costs $10, and each dancer is<br />

responsible for raising funds from sponsors<br />

through their online fundraising pages. To<br />

In addition to dancing, there will be other activities<br />

for people to enjoy such as live music, corn hole,<br />

video games and more. Former hospital patients<br />

and their families will be on hand to share their<br />

stories with the audience.<br />

American Girl Fashion Show ® to benefit <strong>Akron</strong> Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong> Mahoning Valley<br />

The Kids’ Crew of <strong>Akron</strong> Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong> Mahoning<br />

Valley invites you to attend the American Girl Fashion<br />

Show this April at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.<br />

The dates for this year’s shows are:<br />

• Saturday, April 20, 2013: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.; 3 – 5 p.m.<br />

• Sunday, April 21, 2013: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.; 3 – 5 p.m.<br />

It’s a fun-filled time for girls and their families, friends<br />

and favorite dolls. With the theme ‘Styles of Yesterday<br />

and Today,’ this year’s events will showcase historical<br />

and contemporary fashions. Guests also will learn<br />

how clothing has changed throughout the years to<br />

reflect history, culture and individual styles.<br />

“Not only is it a unique fundraiser for the hospital,<br />

it’s an event that creates lifelong memories for<br />

girls and their families,” said JoAnn Stock, director<br />

of development for <strong>Akron</strong> Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong><br />

Mahoning Valley.<br />

Each show will feature a tea-party-themed luncheon,<br />

raffle and door prizes. Tickets are $25 each. All<br />

proceeds will benefit the local programs and services<br />

of <strong>Akron</strong> Children’s <strong>Hospital</strong> Mahoning Valley.<br />
