Our Story....<br />
On March 11, 1889 the California legislature divided Los Angeles<br />
<strong>County</strong> and created <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> as a separate political entity.<br />
This act resulted in the creation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s own <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><br />
education.<br />
The <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> was founded in 1889<br />
with John P. Greeley serving as the first <strong>County</strong> Superintendent <strong>of</strong><br />
Schools. There have been a total <strong>of</strong> 10 <strong>County</strong> Superintendents,<br />
with William M. Habermehl currently serving since 2001.<br />
