Swimming in water that is free of chemicals is a very special 

experience – without bloodshot eyes or itchy skin. 

As opposed to the situation with a swimming pool, the 

OASE SwimPond modules do not require any chemicals 

whatsoever and clean themselves in a totally natural 

manner. Micro organisms in the filter system ensure that 

nutrient input is broken down, while the regeneration 

zone with its plants offers the water additional space to 

clean itself.

Here’s how the concept works: 

1. Team partner stockist / landscaper 

After the individual SwimPond consultation, the specialised 

partner from OASE receives the finished complete 

package SwimPond 20 or 32 for construction of the 

SwimPond with numerous technical services and service 

offerings. We ensure: 

• Mature design 

• All the technology 

• Detailed knowledge summarised in a SwimPond 

construction manual 

• Expert installation of fleece and liner 

• Including all liner transitions 

• Analysis of the fill water 

2. Team partner – garden owner with SwimPond dream 

After receipt of the product package and after coordination 

with the stockist, construction can start: As desired 

by the garden owner, the garden owner or a pond construction 

specialist handles tasks, such as excavation, 

installing the foundation and walls of the swim zone. 

In the manual there is a detailed description of all 

steps including dimensional drawings. The tasks can 

be easily and independently executed, better yet in the 

general contractor principle, bids can be solicited from 

tradesmen. 

Team partner: OASE 

From OASE, stockist and garden owner will receive 

a tender specification list with the additionally required 

construction materials; this enables both partners 

to work together in the ideal price / performance ratio.

The custom-tailored swimming experience 

The modular and matched components from OASE open 

up all possibilities of an entirely personal and individual 

swimming paradise for your customers – whether 

a plunge pool for a fast cool-off or an expansive bathing 

landscape. 

We accompany you from the project planning to completion 

and are available to you as competent partner 

in the background for questions, in all phases – e.g. the 

dimensioning and alignment of the pond in the site, 

to the selection of the proper liner, extending to the 

installation scheme for the lines. 

We would be pleased to assist you with expert liner 

installation in different colours and / or materials, if you 

would like to commission our experienced team to provide 

this service.* 

The most important prerequisites for use 

of technology in and on the SwimPond: 

• Installation, assembly and operating instructions for 

OASE technology in accordance with DIN VDE 0100 

Part 702 and Part 737 (for professional installers), 

or ÖVE-EN1 Part 4 (§49) 

• In the pond only operate devices with a maximum 

of 12 V (for private users) 

• All devices (UVC clarifiers, circulation pumps, transformers 

for lights and / or aerators) with more than 

12 V power must be set up outside of the body of 

water in a separate chamber. 

In this regard either a minimum distance of 2 metres 

to the pond edge or set up in a lockable installation 

room must be complied with. 

In the installation room the pump can be set up dry 

or flooded in a separate pump chamber. 

• The water-conducting lines must be made of plastic. 

• A 30 mA earth leakage circuit breaker must 

be installed.

Individual concepts for 

a healthy SwimPond 

Functioning biology is the foundation for a permanent, 

healthy, living pond that your customers can enjoy 

throughout the entire year. 

For example, if over time, areas with little or weak water 

flow, leaf deposits, one-sided plant growth, nutrient 

excesses or heavy sediment layers (e.g. silt) occur in your 

pond, these are indications that the system must be 

adapted to changing requirements.

Maintenance & care 


The SwimPond through the seasons 

Seasonal cycles and life cycles of the pond biology 

Owning a SwimPond means experiencing nature firsthand. 

As the seasons change the pond also changes and 

so do its needs. External influences such as weathering 

and vegetation ensure that numerous parameters in 

the pond are subject to natural fluctuations – e.g. nutrient 

content, temperature, as well as the number of life 

forms. For example, algae is a component of the nutrient 

pyramid and is present in every natural, as well as nearlynatural, 

body of water. 

A newly created pond needs time to develop the necessary 

pond biology so that the biological-mechanical 

filtration can achieve its full effect. 

In addition, a SwimPond in the course of its development 

is subject to vegetational change so that depending on 

location, its plants and pond inhabitants also change 

over the course of time. 

For care, the following products should be considered. 

Care measures 

1. Silt: The OASE SwimPond concept aims at keeping sediment 

to a minimum. Nevertheless deposits form on the 

pond floor and they must be vacuumed out at the latest 

when deposits are 2 – 3 cm deep, to prevent anaerobic 

putrefaction. Naturally you can also vacuum out these 

deposits more frequently for visual reasons. The OASE 

PondoVac 4 is particularly well-suited in this regard. 

2. Leaves: Falling leaves mean nutrient input, and an 

additional burden for the SwimPond ecosystem. Always 

ensure that your pond is protected from leaves, e.g. 

through leaf nets or appropriate landscaping of the 

area around the SwimPond. In addition in the autumn 

the collection basket of the skimmer should be emptied 

regularly. 

With these constant development processes increased 

string algae can also be a frequent occurrence – however, 

this is also a sign of good water quality. In this case 

the important thing is to reduce the phosphate content. 

Likewise, a certain amount of sedimentation is unavoidable 

in the course of pond development. 

However, the OASE concept is based on maintaining the 

pebble filter surfaces for as long a term as possible and 

to work with low levels of sedimentation. 

Pond construction 

The cornerstone for a functioning SwimPond eco-system 

is laid when the pond is constructed. Clean and professional 

work helps to keep subsequent maintenance 

effort to a minimum. 

3. Algae: There is no natural body of water that does not 

have algae – algae only becomes a problem if there is 

excessive development. 

The following are suitable reduction measures: 

• Mechanical removal and vacuuming 

• Biological / chemical control through the use of pond 

care agents 

• Introduction of nutrient competition through micro 

organisms or cutting back water plants, particularly 

water lilies.

4. Planting: Plants absorb nutrients – consequently trim 

your plants before they store their nutrients in the pond 

near the end of the vegetation period. 

5. Water quality: The pond water should be analysed 

on a regular basis so that you can react as quickly as 

possible to changes in the water values. The OASE professional 

water analysis set is well suited for this task. For 

example, high phosphate content is a nutrient medium 

for string algae and can be reduced through the use of 

PhosLess. 

6. Edges / seal: With regard to vigorously sprawling 

plants, always ensure the presence of an intact capillary 

barrier. In addition, indirect nutrient sources such as rain 

water represent a burden for the pond system. Surface 

water or run-off water absorbs the nutrients and carries 

them into the pond. 

7. Snails and waterfowl: Always keep snails and waterfowl 

away from the SwimPond, as they feed on plants or 

insects that play an important role in the nutrient cycle. 

Different pathogens can be introduced into the pond 

through droppings, for example cercarien that can trigger 

an unpleasant skin rash on humans. 

8. Stability of the walk-on surfaces and condition of the 

structural installation parts. 

9. Instructions for the care and use of each of the products. 

Recommendation: 

Regular care and maintenance of a Swim- 

Pond is particularly important to ensure 

that you have long-term satisfaction 

with your personal oasis. OASE has many 

useful pond helpers in the product line 

that facilitate this care.

It is particularly flexible, ductile, and easy

Our Clear Lake and Clear Fountain systems offer costeffective

Water treatment through membrane electrolysis 

The Clear Lake System stands for attractively 

priced, water treatment that is safe and gentle 

on resources, which has been developed for use 

in natural and near natural bodies of water. 

A concentrated gas mixture is generated from drinking 

water and salt, the Di-Oxylyde, which destroys algae, 

bacteria and viruses in the water and provides clean and 

clear water. It is used in private and public ponds and 

lakes, in fish hatcheries, in spray fountains, in zoological 

and architectural bodies of waters and lakes.

Formal and shallow pools, in particular, require 

optimal water conditions: Ideal pH value, no 

algae and no germs are the basic prerequisites. 

We use proven means to achieve this end. OASE 

has developed a special product range of dosing 

equipment and accessories for trouble-free 

treatment. 

pH value (PHW-30) 

Depending on the initial value, the pH value of the water 

is maintained at a constant level of between 7.2 and 7.6 

by the addition of acid or alkali. Dosing of the pH regulator 

is automatic. 

Germ-free status (ADR 90) 

Germicidal products ensure virtually germ-free status. 

Chlorine products that are often used for swimming 

pools are problematic as they corrode metals and have 

irritating odours. Alternatively, germicidal agents based 

on hydrogen peroxide or silver oxide can be used.

A xxxxxxxxx near-natural OASE SwimPond for guests of the Schlossgut (estate) Schwansee on the Baltic coast, constructed by the company Outdoor Design, GbR, Rostock. (www.schwansee.de) 

Sophisticated illumination: This SwimPond has a volume of 240 m³ and is biologically-mechanically clarified by 10 ProfiClear Classic modules plus Bitron 110C. 

It is in Tata, Hungary, and was constructed by the company, Tubakért. The swim zone is 7 x 4 m in size and 1.80 m deep. The LunAqua 10 system und LunAqua 3 Sets are used for illumination.

What are your customers’ expectations concerning the SwimPond? This handbook is designed to help you and your 

customers consider all the important aspects of the decision to construct a SwimPond. 

What’s your idea of the near natural bathing experience? 

A) To experience nature close up in direct bodily contact, swimming with pond plants and pond animals 

B) A nature experience with little contact to pond animals through clearly defined areas for swimming and water plants, 

however with a common pool 

C) Biological treatment of the water in a separate pond to reduce direct physical contact with pond life forms to an absolute minimum 

D) Clean, extremely clear swimming area without biofilm, with decorative water plants, as well as a few pond animals and automatic 

water cleaning and care. 

Which pond type is appropriate? 

A) Single-chamber system, modelled in-ground, only for absolute nature lovers. The sediment that occurs cannot be completely removed, 

and it can possibly cause turbidity through being whirled up when swimming. Dissolutions from the sediment can cause nutrient excesses. 

B) Single-chamber system with concreted or enclosed pool-like swimming area and directly connected regeneration area. 

If necessary parts of the regeneration area can be located in an external pond. Due to the compact design the maintenance requirement 

should not be overlooked. 

C) Two-chamber systems with completely separate regeneration area, as well as swim area with pool character. Under certain circumstances, 

automatic cleaning robots can be used for pool cleaning, so that the maintenance requirements in the pool itself are reduced. In addition, 

with a separate regeneration area, the biology there can also be left on its own for an extended periods of time, so that the maintenance 

requirements can be reduced. 

D) A natural pool that can only be implemented in combination with chemical disinfectants. With the accompanying automation, 

naturally the manual care that is required can be further reduced.

Regardless of the type: Only an adequately dimensioned circulation and matching filter technology enable optimal withdrawal of 

nutrients from the pond system and thus ensure long-term satisfaction with the SwimPond.

• For the liner that is intended for the pond seal, a sample is submitted to the customer that is confirmed by the customer. 

• Liner has a subjectively noticeably lighter effect than does the pattern when the pond is later filled. 

• Particularly for light liner, increased maintenance requirement can be expected, because the darker sediment stands out due 

to the stronger contrast.
