Oando Adopts School in Calabar - Oando PLC

Oando Plc has thrown its weight
behind the Federal Ministry of
Education’s Adopt a - Public -
School initiative with the formal
adoption of Government Primary
School, Ekorinim, Calabar, in Cross
River State.
This adoption is first in the series of
adoptions the company plans to
undertake during the course of this
year.
Addressing guests at the ceremony,
held at the school’s premises,
Chairman of Oando Plc, Major General
Mohammed Magoro said that the
primary sub sector was the most
troubled of the three tiers in the
education sector. According to the
recent census report in 2006, there are
approximately 140 million Nigerians,
45% of whom are children between
the ages of 0 – 15years. 42.1 million
are eligible for Primary education,
however only 22.3million are in primary
schools as at year end 2005. It can be
estimated that 47% (19.8 million) of
Nigerian children do not have access
to primary school education.

Responsibility initiative which means
that 90% of the CSR budget will be
geared towards empowering youths
through education.
Mr. Wale Tinubu in his own address
mentioned the areas in which the
company will support education. Areas
such as Infrastructural renovation,
teacher training, provision of teaching
aids and training materials,
sponsorship of health clubs and
provision of literary materials for the
library.
The Head Mistress of the school, Mrs.
Bassey Umo expressed her delight
and gratitude at the adoption of the
school. She mentioned that since the
school was established in 1976, they
have been operating in a single block
of six classrooms. Ever since that time,
the school has been in dire need of
additional classroom blocks and seats,
toilets, pipe-borne water and electricity.
The school has about 522 pupils with
a class population ranging from 70 -
100. This has put a lot of stress on the
infrastructural amenities in the school.

OANDO APPOINTS BOLAJI OSUNSANYA, A, MD GASLINK TO BOARD

The Board of Directors, Oando Plc
during the 30 th Annual General
Meeting held in Calabar on
Thursday, 28 th June 2007 approved the
appointment of Mr. Bolaji Osunsanya,
Managing Director, Gaslink Nigeria
Limited, to the Board as a Non-
Executive Director.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr.
Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive,
Oando Plc states; “We have set a
definite expansion strategy for
ourselves at Oando, and are identifying
very talented individuals to steer the
organization to its bright future. Bolaji
Osunsanya has displayed tremendous
capacity in Gaslink and we believe his
elevation to the Board of Oando Plc
will be of immense benefit to the Oando
group.”
Mobolaji Olatunbosun Osunsanya
holds a bachelors degree in
Economics from the University of Ife
and a Masters degree, also in
economics, from the University of
Lagos. He previously worked as a
consultant with Arthur Andersen
Nigeria (now KPMG professional
services) with experience in the
banking, oil & gas and manufacturing
industries.
Mr. Osunsanya joined the former
Unipetrol Nig Plc in August 2001, as
Head of Lubes and Specialties where
he was responsible for product
coordination and eventual sales of
Lubricants, Bitumen, Chemicals, LPG
and Aviation fuels.
In July 2004, he became Chief
Marketing Officer, Commercial, Oando
Marketing, with direct responsibility for
national commercial sales.
Before joining Oando Plc, He was
Executive Director, Marketing in
Access Bank Nigeria Limited, where
he was in charge of marketing the
Bank’s retail and commercial products
of the bank.
Mr. Osunsanya had spent several prior
years with Guaranty Trust Bank where
he rose to the position of Assistant
General Manager/Head of Local
Corporate Group of the Institutional
Banking Division where he managed
a portfolio of about 40 active (top tier)
client relationship in the Commodity
Trading, Flour Milling and Textile
sectors.

Another half year has sped by and
our company, Oando continues to
make significant advancements
towards the delivery of our set
goals for the year.
Two major events that happened
during the quarter are the
company’s 30th Annual General
and the subsequent appointment
of Bolaji Osunsanya, MD Gaslink as
an Executive Director of Oando Plc.
The second event was the formal
launch of the company’s Corporate
Social Responsibility Programme
and the adoption of Government
New Data Centre e Opened
at Oando
Oando Plc, announced the
beginning of a partnership
with Hewlett-Packard. The
partnership is aimed at providing
the necessary infrastructure and
support as Oando makes
significant changes to its
Information Technology (IT)
infrastructure that will power its
Oracle E-Business Suite, an ERP
(Enterprise Resource Planning)
platform that will help automate
Oando’s entire operations.
With this partnership, Oando
leverages on HP’s world-class
equipment to improve business
communication and enhance
decision making by supplying realtime
information to Management,
thereby ensuring its ability to react
quickly to changing market needs
and conditions.
Commenting on the business
relationship with HP, Mr. Abiola
Lawal, Group Chief Strategy
Officer, Oando Plc states, “we
needed to significantly enhance
our operations and meet worldclass
standards in business
processes. We are accomplishing

Speaking further on the
partnership, Mr. Abiola Lawal
states, “as a group of companies,

we are now, where we want to go
and what systems we need to take
us there. The old systems we were
using cannot help scale with our
growth, as acquisitions and organic
growth had led to systems being
added to our overall IT
infrastructure, with very little
integration.”
Oando evaluated the hardware
purchase on three criteria:
Performance, Support and Value.
After considering these three
criteria, Oando found the HP
proposal to be the best all round
solution to help the company
achieve its goals, as HP offered the
company the right combination of
hardware and software solutions at
the right price that will enhance
their business operations. These
HP servers were then chosen to
power Oando’s latest state of the
art data centre.
Other possible areas of partnership
between Oando Plc and HP
include HP’s archiving solutions,
leveraging HP’s open view software
technology to manage the
infrastructure productivity etc.
Speaking on the Data Centre, the
Head, Information Technology,
Oando Plc, Mr. Yusuf Yila
comments, “the implementation of

Africa, and shows our
determination to be at the forefront
of technology transformations in
our business, as it will enhance our

recognizing and integrating its

sound performance-tested

This collaborative approach has
helped in the implementation of
infrastructure solutions capable of
cost-effectively supporting these
business goals in such areas as
extending existing network to
support the Oracle e-business
suite currently being implemented
by the company, integrating stateof-the-art
mobile communications,
tightening enterprise-wide security,
and expanding the company’s
storage capacity.”

Data Centre was done by the

Group Management Retreat

management retreat was
held at the Nicon Hotel,
Victoria Garden City, Lagos on
Friday and Saturday, 11 th - 12 th May,
2007.
The objective is to review the
company’s overall results based on
projection for the first quarter.
There was the introduction of the
new hires in the company as well
as the GCE’s quarterly awards
winners. There was also the
company’s performance review in
2006 as well as the Q1 2007
results.

Oando Awards Scholarships to Onne Indigenes
in Rivers State
In continuation of its support for
education in Nigeria, Oando Plc
on Thursday, 21 st June, 2007
presented scholarships to eight
secondary school students who
are indigenes of its host
communities in Onne, Eleme Local
Government Area of Rivers State,
for the 2006/2007 academic year.
The award covers the payment of
all tuition fees and purchase of
books during the academic
session.
The scholarship award ceremony
was presented to the beneficiaries
in the palace of the Paramount
Ruler of Onne Clan, His Royal
Highness, Chief (Dr.) Osaronu on
behalf of Oando Plc by the Terminal
Manager, Mr. Peter Esekhaigbe.
Commenting during the ceremony,
Mr. Peter Esekhaigbe, Terminal
Manager, Onne Terminal, states,
“we are indeed grateful for the
cordial and peaceful relationship
that has existed between Oando
and Onne community and is in line
with Oando’s policy and
development plans for the
community.”
In his remarks, Mr. Martin O. Olaka,
Chairman, Community
Development Committee, Onne
Clan, stated, “the community will
continue to support Oando and its
operations in the area, while also
ensuring the safety of all Oando
staff and their assets in the
community.”
Speaking afterwards, Mr. Ayo
Ajose-Adeogun, Chief Operating
Officer, Oando Marketing, states,
“Oando is committed to the
development of the educational
sector in Nigeria and today’s
presentation is one of the various
ways Oando is supporting the
growth of the sector. Our stay in
Onne, Rivers State has been
without incident and we look
forward to many more years of
peaceful co-existence within the
community.”
Speaking further, Mr. Ajose-
Adeogun adds, “empowering the
Oando staff in a group photograph with recipients of the scholarship
communities through education is
part of Oando’s commitment to the
Adopt-a-School initiative of the
Federal Government. We are
actively participating in this project
of the Federal Government and will
soon be announcing our plans in
this regard. We however see the
award of scholarships to the 8
deserving pupils today as the first
step in ensuring the development
of the Nigerian child.”
Presently, Oando has adopted the
Government Primary School,
Ekorinim, in Calabar, Cross Rivers
State, and will adopt four additional
schools in Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja
and Rivers States in 2007. Our
areas of focus in the Adopt-A-
School project includes structural
renovation, teachers training,
teaching aids and equipment for
libraries.
The scholarship scheme, which
was instituted by Oando in 2005 as
part of Oando’s initiatives to
support the growth of education in
communities where the company
has operations, has seen over 20
students from Onne and Bundu
Ama communities in Rivers State,
benefit from the scheme.

HAPPY HOLIDAY PROMO THRILLS CONSUMERS
In a bid to maximize sales
during festive seasons and
create excitement for
consumers, Oando Marketing
had a very successful promo,
tagged ‘Oando Happy Holidays
Promo’. This was the first in the
series of mini promos that will
take place during public
holidays going forward.
The promo was held in 120
Oando filling Stations across
Nigeria during the Eid El Maolud
and Easter period from 30 th
March to 9 th April 2007.
most stations sold out despite
repeated supplies. Reports from
the branches showed that
consumers were excited at the
promo as they went away with
exciting gift items like mugs,
colorful wrist bands, note pads,
stickers and umbrellas.
The report from the States
showed that the happy holiday
promo would in a long time linger
in the memories of all who
participated because it
recorded an enormous turnout
of customers.
The Happy holiday promo that
was launched during the Eid-
Maulud and Easter holidays was
a huge success nationwide due
to the massive participation by
our teaming customers .There
was heavy traffic to Oandos fore
courts following the promo and

Managers coordinated the
decorations to ensure that only
Oando colors were used and to
maintain consistency in
decorations.
Communication materials like
banners, posters, flyers and
stickers which were sent were

radio jingles on the popular radio
stations educated and created
awareness for the promo while
jingles laced with popular music
was played on the forecourt
and thrilled customers.

Oando Boosts Customer Service Launches
Oando marketing launched ten
brand new Kia pick-up vans on
Tuesday 19, June, 2007 at its
Lagos Head Office. The presentation
of the branded trucks to its pump
mechanics is geared to enhance the
swift and efficient operation of
dispensing pumps in order to meet up
with the demand and speedy dispersal
of fuel supplies.

The presentation/handing over
ceremony was the first in the series of
vans to support the pump mechanics
in their tasks of speedy response to all
engineering issues and challenges at
Oando’s over 500 retail stations in
Nigeria and to forestall lapses in the
seamless delivery of products to
ensure customer satisfaction. This will
also ensure accurate meter readings
ensuring that customers always get
value for money.
The launch which was also a photo
shoot session saw reporters and
photo-journalists from various media

service team and as a company,
Oando Plc will initiate and adapt to
world class standards to deliver this.”

Oando…partnering with ENI
As part of efforts to further
increase our product offerings
in the lubricant business, a twoman
team from Oando Marketing led
by Mr. Ayo Ajose-Adeogun, Chief
Operating Officer and Ayo Osibogun,
Head Lubricants paid a working visit
to ENI S.p.A, Italy. The visit was also
an opportunity for Oando to get an
insight into the workings of the ENI
Group, a global player in the Oil and
Gas industry with interests in
Exploration and Production, Gas &
Power, Refining and Marketing, Oilfield
Services, Construction and
Engineering.
ENI S.p.A currently operates ten fully
automated lubricants blending plants
in Italy and the rest of Europe.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Osibogun
presented an insight of the strategic
partnership and benefit’s the
relationship will bring to both parties,
especially as ENI seeks to expand its
business dealings in Africa and Oando
also seeks to be a dominant player in
the lubricants business in Nigeria and
beyond. He further added that there
will be immense benefits to Oando in
terms of Technical Assistance -
international trainings to be organized
for Oando’s Lubricant Sales Engineers,
Client referrals from ENI for notable
international clients, some of which has
been done in the past.

and experimental stages for crankcase,
marine and industry lubricants, i.e. from
requirements analysis to optimum
formulations following the cost-benefits

performances. It is carried out as a
parallel activity on raw materials like nonconventional,
synthetic and mineral
bases and additives.
Eni runs engine tests accredited
according to ISO 17025, following CEC
(Coordinating European Council) codes.
Additional engine tests are generated
from cooperation with car manufacturers
e.g. Volkswagen in order to obtain the
certification of products in compliance
with their specifications.
Eni’s overall financial commitment to
support technological innovation in the
four year period 2007 – 2010 will be
approx £1.5billion
On the whole this partnership will ensure
Oando’s core business gets the key
technologies required to both win
competitive advantages and make them
sustainable in time to promptly face new
industrial scenarios envisaged in the
future and at the same time help expand
with Eni in Africa especially in West Africa.

Oando Idols Celebrate JAT’s Birthday
The staff of Oando Plc proved
beyond words that they are
hard players as much as they
are hard workers. On Friday 29 th
July, 2007, they all gathered
together at Terra Kulture on Tiamiyu
Savage, Victoria Island not only to
unwind but also to celebrate the
40 th year of their Group Chief
Executive, Mr. Wale Tinubu.
On hand to entertain staff were the
Halleluyah Crooner, Gordon who
was the MC cum comedian of the
day; DJ Jimmy Jatt who dazzled
staff to scintillating music with his
magnetic fingers; D’banj and P-

Oando presented this year’s
facts behind the figures at
the Nigerian Stock
Exchange on the 1 st June, 2007,
and held its 30 th Annual General
Meeting in Calabar, Cross River
State on the 28 th of June, 2007.
At the AGM, the shareholders
approved the restructuring of the
company under a new scheme
arrangement that would see Oando
Plc acquiring all the shares owned
by Ocean and Oil Holdings and
Gaslink in its five subsidiaries

Oando Appoints New MD and Managers for
its Exploration Subsidiary
Bright Ahonsi, MD/CEO Oando Exploration and
Production Limited
Effective 15th May 2007,
Bright Ahonsi was
appointed Chief Executive
Officer, Oando Exploration and
Production Limited.
Mr. . Bright Ahonsi will be
responsible for formulating and
articulating the next stage of the
vision of ensuring that Oando is
able to quickly monetise her
existing assets, by bringing them
to first oil, and ensuring that Oando
Exploration and Production
achieves her aim of being the
foremost Oil and Gas Producer in
Nigeria.
Bright Ahonsi, Chief Executive
Officer, Oando Exploration &
Production, has spent over 25
years in the oil and gas industry,
working or consulting
internationally for major oil
companies and new generation
operators. His experience covers
various locations including North
Sea, UKCS, Dutch North Sea,
Continental Europe, Middle East,
North and West Africa.
His area of specialization include
oil and gas field development,
taking assets from initiation to first
oil, while he has also managed
mature fields optimization and
production acceleration
processes.
Bright has worked on various
assets acquisition and divestment
projects worldwide, including
financing arrangement and has
been involved with liaising with
government bodies in the United
Kingdom, Caspian, Middle East
and Nigeria.
Some of the companied he has
worked or consulted for include,
Halliburton Energy Services Group,
UK; AEA Technology, UK; Shell
Nigeria and International; BP, UK;
Total and ENI Group, Milan,
amongst others.
Mr. Bright Ahonsi holds a
Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum
Engineering from the University of
Ibadan and is a 25-year club
member of the Society of Petroleum
Engineers (SPE).
Other appointments in OEPL are:
Anthony Sawyerr, Ejiro Dortie,
Kazeem Koleoso and Harris E. Ani
to its management team with
immediate effect.
Anthony Sawyerr, Well Operations
Manager. Will be responsible for all
Drilling Well Operations in the
company. Tony holds a Bachelors
degree in Mechanical Engineering
from the University of Ibadan –
Nigeria.
He has over 14 years post
graduate working experience and
has performed engineering and
supervisory roles in offshore drilling
(Exploration, development,
extended reach and horizontal
wells), completion, field
development, drilling project
management, production, planning
and crude oil export processing.
Prior to joining Oando, he held
various positions in ExxonMobil
Drilling and Production Groups
(both onshore and offshore) in a
career spanning over 13 years.
He is a member of the Society of
Petroleum Engineers, the Nigerian
Society of Engineers and the
American Association of Drilling
Engineers.
Ejiro Dortie, Manager; Business
Development will be responsible for
seeking new business
opportunities for the company. He
holds a graduate degree in
Economics from Ambrose Alli
University and an MBA degree with
a specialisation in Oil & Gas
Management from The Centre for
Energy, Petroleum, Mineral law &
Policy (CEPMLP) of the University
of Dundee, Scotland, United
Kingdom (UK).
Ejiro has over ten (10) years post
graduate working experience in
Management & Business
Development Strategy. He joined
the Oando group in September,
2004 as the Executive Assistant
(EA) to the CEO/MD of Ocean & Oil
Services Ltd which later
metamorphosed into Oando
Energy Services Ltd.
He is well versed in the Upstream
Oil & Gas industry by way of
exposure to the international
energy market and also possesses
a varied number of oil industry
qualifications in the areas of
Economic Modelling/Risk Analysis
& Decision – Making in Petroleum
Exploration, International
Petroleum Fiscal Systems Analysis
& Design, Financial & Project
Analysis of Energy Ventures.
He is a member of the Energy
Institute, UK and an Associate
member of the Scottish Networks
International, Edinburgh, UK.
Kazeem Koleosho, Exploration
Manager will be responsible for
drawing up oil block exploration
strategies and will also have
technical oversight for OEPL’s
current oil blocks.
Prior to joining OEPL, Kazeem was
the Asset Manager, Deepwater for
Conoil Producing Limited. Prior to
this, he had stints with Mobil
Producing Nigerian Unlimited,
Statoil AS (International Division)
and Statoil Nigeria Limited, where
he held various positions such as
Geologist, Subsurface Team
Leader and Senior Staff Geologist.
Kazeem holds a Bachelors degree
in Geology from the University of
Ibadan and a Masters in Petroleum
Geology from the same institution.
He is a member of the American
Association of Petroleum
Geologists (AAPG), Petroleum
Exploration Society of Great Britain
(PESGB) and Nigerian Association
of Petroleum Explorationists
(NAPE).
Harris Efe Ani, Environmental,
Health, Safety and Quality Manager
possesses a B.Sc degree in
Geology from the University of
Benin, Edo state and has over 10
years upstream experience in
geological and HSE projects.
He started his career in Chevron
Nigeria Limited before joining
Mosunmolu Limited, an indigenous
oil service company as a geologist,
where he held various senior staff
positions before his resignation as
Technical/ Safety Manager in
Febraury,2006.
Harris had a stint with Safety
initiative Limited , an HSE
consulting firm, where he was the
lead consultant for marginal field
operations handling HSE matters.
He is currently a member of the
Nigerian Institute of Safety
Professionals (NISP), Waste
Management Society of Nigeria
(WMSN) and the Nigerian
Environmental Society (NES).

Management has
announced the
appointment of Mr. Uche
Dimiri as the Chief Executive
Officer, Oando Energy Services,
while Mrs. Olawunmi Asekun,
former Executive Director, Finance
& Admin, Gaslink moves to OES in
the same capacity.
Speaking recently on the new
appointments, Mr Wale Tinubu,
Group Chief Executive, comments,
“The new appointments are in line
with the growing profile of Oando
Energy Services and we are
confident that they coming on
board will ensure the business
continues on its growth projectile.”

is a Physics graduate of the
University of Lagos, where he was
a ChevronTexaco Scholar. He also
has a Masters in petroleum
Engineering from the University of
Port Harcourt.
Prior to joining Oando, Uche was
the World Wide Drilling Training
Manager, Schlumberger D&M,
England, with responsibility for
implementing strategic directions
of World Wide Directional Drilling
Training for Schlumberger.
Uche has close to 20 years industry
experience in the Oil & Gas, with
notable experiences in Drilling,
Training and Development,
Accounts Management,
Operations and Sales and
Marketing, all with Schlumberger.
His working career began in the
Schlumberger Nigeria Office,
where he was at various times, the
Field Engineer, Drilling Engineer
Directional Driller, and later, Cell
Manager responsible for all
services at the well site from 1988-
1995.
In 1995, he was a Field Service
Manager/Location Manager in
Warri and later became a Product
Champion, Rotary Steerable
Systems at Schlumberger D&M
Headquarters in Houston, USA
before moving to the Paris Office
as the Training Development and
Staffing Manager.
Uche came back to Nigeria with the
Oil Field Services unit of
Schlumberger as the GeoMarket
Accounts Manager, Shell and Oil
Field Services Manager, Warri,
where he provided account
management for all services to
Shell. He was later the Operations
Manager, North West Africa based
in Equatorial Guinea and the Sales
and Marketing Manager, Nigeria
GeoMarket.

Olawunmi has extensive finance
and accounting experience in the
oil and gas sector, which has been
developed over the past 10 years,
as she has acquitted herself
favourably in various roles within
the Oando Group.
Olawunmi Asekun holds a
Bachelors degree in Economics
from the University of Lagos and is
a Fellow of the Chartered
Association of Certified
Accountants (FCCA) and is an
Associate Member of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of
Nigeria (ICAN).
Prior to her new appointment with
Oando Energy Service, Olawunmi
was the Executive Director,
Finance, Gaslink Nigeria Limited,
a subsidiary of Oando plc, where
she was involved with the Greater
Lagos Gas supply project.
Before joining Oando in 2001,
Olawunmi had worked with
ExxonMobil, UK as well as Texas
Utility (formerly Eastern Energy)
also in the UK.

held at the Eko Hotel. In

execute and close-out a project.
The purpose of a project management
methodology is to create repeatable
processes as well as to provide
consistency among project managers.
A good methodology is:
• Easy to use
• Provides a solid framework
• Allows flexibility depending on the
size and nature of the project.
Oando Plc would evolve a
methodology based on PRINCE2.
Why Project Management for Oando?
The challenge facing today’s
businesses is two-fold. They must be
able to run their operations efficiently
and effectively to ensure profitability
month after month. Secondly, they must
be dynamic enough to introduce
strategic initiatives to their current
operations in order to position
