Support Services
At Oakland Schools, we serve student learning in many ways – some more direct than others. By focusing on
cost savings, efficiencies of scale, and supporting the technological framework for delivery of instruction and its
assessment, Oakland Schools employees play an important role in maximizing the dollars that go into every Oakland
County classroom. Support Services departments – Communication Services, Financial Services, Government
Relations and Pupil Services, Human Resources, JobLink Service Center, Legal Affairs, Regional Services –
including the Office of Procurement and Contracting, and Technology Services – support and strengthen the
ancillary services that are essential for the smooth operation of every school.
• Oakland coordinates the Michigan Green Schools program for Oakland
Schools (in 2011-2012, 183 Oakland County Schools earned this
designation).
Oakland Schools Support Services documented 3,338.85 hours of assistance
to Oakland County school districts. Technology Services provided an
additional 20,942.10 hours of assistance, bringing the total to 24,280.95 hours
of service to our local districts.
Districts save money with Support Services
• Transportation Services worked with 18 school districts to collaborate on
routes reducing mileage by 119,640 miles for the school year and saving
$784,758.00. This team also provided state-mandated safety education for
933 bus drivers, mechanics and supervisors and specialized professional
development opportunities for 177 mechanics, special education drivers
and aides, school bus driver trainers and business office managers.
• Pupil Accounting, Legal and Truancy services saved local districts
$5,741,904.
• Oakland Schools Shipping and Receiving drove more than 50,000 miles
last year, providing timely pick up and delivery services to all districts in
Oakland County.
• Additional support services through Communication Services, Event
Management, and Legal Affairs saved $226,625.17.
