Mapping Greece is a beautifully designed and richly
illustrated history that covers the cartography of Greece
during the Renaissance and Enlightenment. The book
discusses many themes such as the foundations of the
mapping of Greece, the development of cartographic conventions,
the standardization of regional maps of Greece,
and the application of modern surveying technology. In
addition, the publication contains a detailed catalogue of
the books in the Margarita Samourka collection (one of
the most important collections of its kind in private hands
in Greece) that consists of 1,700 maps of Greece. Mapping
Greece contains four prefaces and an assessment of the
contribution of maps of Greece to the general history of
cartography.

donated to Johns Hopkins University in 2010 by the Hinkes family,
and appears here for the first time fully described in printed form.
In addition to providing a complete bibliography of the Hinkes
Collection, this beautifully-illustrated volume includes narrative
essays that put the books in the collection into their proper historical
context. This volume is illustrated in full color throughout and the
illustrations were carefully chosen to demonstrate the highly visual,
and often aesthetic, qualities of the many objects in the collection.
