Geometric surface evolution using clustering
R. Grzibovskis
Universität des Saarlandes
We present a method of tracking a geometric surface evolution. This method is
based on a hierarchical clustering procedure and allows to efficiently apply convolutionthresholding
schemes when the time step is small. This is important because the
evolving surface can have complicated shape and, therefore, one might need O(10 6 )
triangles to describe it. We compare the efficiency of this method to the efficiency
of the procedure which is based on the Fourier transform. We also present some
numerical examples involving smooth surfaces as well as surfaces with singularities.
