1 to identify and define ethical questi<strong>on</strong>s raised by recent advances in biological and medical<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>research</str<strong>on</strong>g> in order to resp<strong>on</strong>d to, and to anticipate, public c<strong>on</strong>cern;<br />

2 to make arrangements for examining and reporting <strong>on</strong> such questi<strong>on</strong>s with a view to<br />

promoting public understanding and discussi<strong>on</strong>; this may lead, where needed, to the<br />

formulati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> new guidelines by the appropriate regulatory or other body;<br />

3 in the light <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the outcome <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its work, to publish reports; and to make representati<strong>on</strong>s, as the<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> may judge appropriate.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Nuffield</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> Bio<str<strong>on</strong>g>ethics</str<strong>on</strong>g> is funded jointly by<br />
