I write in response to your request for information in relation to site inspections at the Comely Bank<br />

Centre, Crewe Road South, Edinburgh.<br />

I have been provided with information to help answer your request by Ms Michelle Finnie, Lands<br />

and Property Manager, <strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Lothian</strong>.<br />

Question:<br />

1. The Department responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Comelybank Centre,<br />

Crewe Road South, Edinburgh<br />

Answer:<br />

<strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Lothian</strong>’s Estates Department is responsible for the maintenance of the Comely Bank<br />

Centre.<br />

Question:<br />

2. Documentary evidence of the Western General’s and <strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Lothian</strong>’s policy for gritting of<br />

pavements in the Western General, Royal Victoria Hospital and Comelybank Centre.<br />

Answer:<br />

I have enclosed the gritting regime and the snow clearing policy for the Western General<br />

Hospital area applicable over the winter of 2012/13, including the diagram showing the<br />

snow clearing plan for the Comely Bank Centre.<br />

Question:<br />

3. The date on which the overflow pipe, which juts out from the side of the Comelybank<br />

Centre, was discovered to be leaking and dripping down to the pavement.<br />

Answer:<br />

I am advised that the overflow pipe described was found to be leaking on 3 April 2013 and<br />

was adjusted and tested on the same day.<br />

After adjustment and testing on 3 April 2013 the site was inspected again on 16 May 2013.<br />

5. The date on which the overflow pipe was repaired.<br />

6. What steps were taken to repair the overflow pipe and by whom?<br />

Answer:<br />

The ball-cock was adjusted and tested on 3 April 2013. The ball-cock was overhauled on<br />

28 June 2013 after a fault with the boiler was reported.<br />
