Children have such great expectations. They often show an eagerness that marvels adults. They can't wait to get at the
Christmas gifts. They race off to explore new vistas. They dive into new things with an energy that seems beyond imagining.
This exuberant curiosity that characterizes childhood gets channeled over time into an exploration of one's place in the
world as teenagers or young adults discover their own selves and decide what they want to do with their lives. Sometimes,
the intense eagerness of childhood is restrained by the reality of the adult world in which real limitations are made manifest.
Not everything is a game to explore anymore.
In this weekend's Gospel, we have a story of a man who had to face his own limitations. Zacchaeus was a short guy. He
couldn't see above the crowd. But he used his own ingenuity in his attempt to see Jesus. He climbed up a sycamore tree and
sat in its branches because he wanted to catch a glimpse of this prophet who had come to Jericho. Jesus in turn stops at the
sycamore and invites Zacchaeus to come down. Whatever limitations Zacchaeus had because of his height, it didn't seem to
affect his business acumen, for the Gospel tells us that he was a wealthy man. The people of Jericho seem to think that not
all of his wealth was acquired legitimately. But Zacchaeus stands his ground, promising to over-compensate anyone whom
he may have harmed.
As we move on in life, we may find ourselves at the point of having lost some of the enthusiasm for what got us to where
we are. Our day-to-day experiences can sometimes feel like a rut that consumes our energy. The story of Zacchaeus reminds
us that there can be a renewal of grace that enlivens us once again. We might consider where Jesus is walking by in
our life, and if we have the eagerness to see him.

These sessions will be rooted in prayer, and will delve into the Archdiocese’s
priorities of Catholic Identity, Evangelization, and Stewardship – and
what they mean to our archdiocese and our own parish. The Synod and the
sessions leading up to it should be a wonderful and exciting spirit-led process
that will give the archdiocese a clearer direction of priorities for the next
ten years. You can help re-energize our Catholic Faith by attending one of
these sessions. Please keep the Synod in your prayers; prayer cards can be
found on the ushers’ stands.

4 th through November 8 th . Tuesday, November
5 th, the fair will be open until 7:00 pm.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
We are in need of volunteers to help with some cleaning
projects at St. Charles on November 9th starting at
9:00. We will be cleaning up the outside of the grounds
and doing some inside cleaning also. Some of the
work will be physical so you must be able to lift and
carry heavy objects. Only those capable will be doing
the heavy work. There will be lighter work also. Please

We are in need of help with Eucharistic Ministers at all

**Honor Flight – One Last Mission**
On August 26, 2011, the 8 th grade graduating class at St.
Charles had a carwash fundraiser at Fox River State
Bank in Burlington. They raised $4700, which was
used to send World War II Veterans to Washington, DC
to see the national memorial built in their honor.
As of August 2011, Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, one
of 6 hubs serving Wisconsin, has flown over 2000 veterans
on 14 flights in the last few years.
On May 19, 2013, St. Charles, courtesy of Fox River
State Bank, hosted a viewing of Honor Flight – One
Last Mission. This is the must-see movie that documents
it all. The DVD can be checked out from the Cry
Room library. Meet Joe and Harvey, Julian and Orville.
Their stories will touch your heart. This is the real life
story that changed everything, and it is
EXTRAORDINARY!

Annual Topper Dinner & Auction
The 29th Annual Topper Dinner & Auction, the major fundraiser
for Catholic Central High School, will be
held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at Veterans Terrace, beginning

Los Tres Grandes Prioridades del Sínodo Arquidiocesano
Las tres grandes prioridades pastorales del Sínodo son tres:
1. Identidad Católica
2. Evangelización
3. Servicio
1. Nuestra Identidad Católica o quiénes somos. En el boletín de
la semana pasada hemos reflexionado sobre nuestra identidad
católica. Tratando de tener claro quién es Jesús para nosotros,
hemos contestado la gran pregunta de la Carta Pastoral del Arzobispo
Listecki “¿Quién dicen ustedes que soy yo?” (Mateo
16,15). Es claro que primero tenemos que saber quién es Jesucristo
para nosotros y después ver qué implicaciones tiene esa convicción
en nuestra vida. Nosotros somos sus seguidores, sus discípulos.
Jesús es el centro de nuestra vida. Él es el centro de la vida de
la Iglesia, y por nuestra fe nos unimos a Él, y vivimos haciendo su
voluntad. Caminar sin Jesús es como caminar sin norte. Caminamos
como sus discípulos en la Iglesia Católica desde el momento
en que nos bautizamos. Vivimos en armonía con las enseñanzas de la iglesia y procuramos profundizar en
nuestra propia vida interior. La Iglesia es Misterio, Sacramento y Comunión. La Virgen María es un modelo
de fidelidad a la voluntad de Dios.
2. La Evangelización. Una vez que clarificamos nuestra identidad, tenemos que ver qué tenemos que hacer
para llevar a Cristo al mundo. En su Carta Pastoral el Arzobispo nos dice: “La Evangelización es lo que
hacemos. Cada católico es responsable de esparcir la semilla del Evangelio según la propia vocación. Estamos
llamados a proclamar a Cristo a cada persona que no lo conoce a Él o a su Iglesia. Estamos también
llamados a despertar la Fe en la vida de aquellos en quienes ésta se ha adormecido, motivándolos a continuar
el camino de la conversión.”
La Evangelización es un deber del discípulo de Cristo. La Palabra de Dios nos dice: “Vayan por todo el mundo
y prediquen el evangelio a toda criatura” (Marcos 16:15); “Predica la palabra; insiste a tiempo y fuera de
tiempo” (2 Timoteo 4:2).
