same name in silver and gold, struck in <strong>the</strong> Low Countries during<br />

Spanish sway, were also known as reales but terms are <strong>of</strong>ten ;<br />

by <strong>the</strong> authorities. A piece <strong>of</strong> 50 reales in silver was struck at Segovia<br />

at various dates by Philip III. and IV. and Charles II., and one <strong>of</strong> 100<br />

in gold by Philip IV., <strong>of</strong> Spain. In <strong>the</strong> Franco-Spanish series we have a<br />

piece <strong>of</strong> 5 reaux, 1641. A small silver piece, named on <strong>the</strong> face a reaal,<br />

was struck for <strong>the</strong> Dutch settlement <strong>of</strong> Cura^oa in 1821. Also a Portuguese<br />

silver and copper denomination, 1 1<br />
