Orgelet, Dept. <strong>of</strong> Jura, arrond. <strong>of</strong> Lons-le-Saulnier, a mint between 1341<br />

and 1350 <strong>of</strong> Jean de Chalon, Comte d'Auxerre et de Tonnerre, who was<br />

in France. In<br />

disqualified by <strong>the</strong> regulations <strong>of</strong> 1315 from striking money<br />

1363 his son was using <strong>the</strong> mint, and like his fa<strong>the</strong>r was excommunicated<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Primate <strong>of</strong> Vienne. Billon<br />

only.<br />

Orleans, doubtless a Merovingian mint, as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sons <strong>of</strong> Clovis,<br />

on <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> kingdom in 511, made it his capital. It was a<br />

Carlovingian place <strong>of</strong> coinage and one <strong>of</strong> Eudes, 987-98. A piece <strong>of</strong><br />

24 sols <strong>of</strong> Louis XV., 1767, was struck here, and one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same value <strong>of</strong><br />

Louis XVI., 1787.<br />

Ortenburg, Austria, <strong>the</strong> seat <strong>of</strong> a coinage <strong>of</strong> thalers, etc., 1636, <strong>of</strong><br />

Cardinal Wiedmann, Count <strong>of</strong> O.<br />

Osnabriick, Hanover, <strong>the</strong> mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> bishops and chapter, I2th-i3th c.<br />

The distinguishing symbol is a wheel. There is a curious series <strong>of</strong><br />

pfennigen and deniers in copper <strong>of</strong> a later date, with <strong>the</strong>ir multiples, appertaining<br />

to <strong>the</strong> See and town, including a piece <strong>of</strong> 9 pf.<br />

A thaler <strong>of</strong> Leopold<br />

I., 1693, was struck <strong>the</strong>re ;<br />

and money <strong>of</strong> necessity appeared in 1633.<br />

Ostend, <strong>the</strong> home <strong>of</strong> a denier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> I3th c. with a full-faced bust <strong>of</strong><br />

St. Martin and Ostd.<br />

Otterndorf, a mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duchy <strong>of</strong> Lauenburgh, 1 7th-<br />

Oudewater, S. Holland, besieged and burned by <strong>the</strong> Spaniards in<br />

We have met with a piece <strong>of</strong> 40 stuivers.<br />
