Surface mining "Grivice" is characteristic for<br />
being the most developed in the vicinity of<br />
settlement <br />

This open pit excavates brown coal, with a<br />
thickness of 18 m and barren layers above it<br />
thickness from 50 to 150 m. Open pit<br />
"Grivice" is generally characterized by solid<br />
supporting walls made of gray, dark<br />
limestone and marl, occasionally with blue<br />
and gray-green marly clay interbeds overlaid<br />
and tan or green clay in the basement. Rock<br />
and coalis minied, and the excavators,<br />
hydraulic and conventional (shovels and<br />
dredges) load on trucks. Trucks are "Terex",<br />
capacity 154 tons, "Lectra Haul", capacity<br />
120 tons and "BELAZ", capacity 136 tons,<br />
and the transport is carried out during the day<br />
(24 h). The total coal reserves in PK<br />
"Grivice" are estimated at over 20 million<br />
tons of raw coal. Current capacity of the pit<br />
to 1 000 000 tonnes per year. The landfill is<br />
at 1 000 m from the crater pit (Figure 2).<br />
