Welcome from the JCR President
Hi everyone and welcome to your new home away from home, Lonsdale College!
First of all I’d like to say huge congratulations for all your amazing results which have managed to get
you into one of the UK’s top 10 Universities and even bigger congratulations for being accepted into
the greatest college Lancaster University has to offer. Lonsdale College is your new home, known as
the party college we have built a reputation to be THE liveliest college on campus, we have our own
thriving little community here and you too, from this point onwards will become part of the Lonsdale
bubble. Each college has a JCR exec which is the committee of students that put on events and in
effect run the College from a student perspective. You will soon begin to see, Lonsdale throw the
best socials, have the best banter, the best bar as well as the best college spirit. This week you will
have to come face to face with the 7 other average colleges, with their poor banter and lack of
college spirit, and you will soon realise why we are the College everyone wants to be in. You are the
chosen few who will maintain Lonsdale’s superiority and party college reputation. In Freshers’ Week
college chanting plays a major role and Lonsdale College is now part of your identity, and part of
who you are, so be loud, be proud, and be prepared to show every other college that Lonsdale has
the best Freshers around.
We are renowned for having sell out socials, and packed events in Lonsdale bar. Whatever it is you
like, and however you like to socialise, we have something for you. Whether it’s a quiet chilled out
night in the bar with live music, or something a bit crazier, we give it you. Every week we will bring
you something new and exciting. Lonsdale’s socials are talked about all over the University. We have
sell-out trips to Manchester, Liverpool and Preston, going to some of the biggest clubs around. We
are the only college to have what is arguably a club as appose to a bar and have previously brought
big name DJs down for nights of mayhem! Most Friday nights you will also find Lonsdale’s very own
DJs playing in the bar, showcasing campus and off campus talent. Every 2 weeks we hold the
showcase that is Lonnie Live, allowing anybody to perform and show off their musical talents at the
end of term we also put on the incredible Lonnie’s Got Talent, in which anybody can show off any
talent, however wacky it may be! Lonnie bar also hosts free zumba sessions, mammoth fifa
tournaments, Lonsdale’s very own olympics, quizzes and much much more. As well as all this, we
give you our magical Christmas Ball at the end of this term which always sells out fast! Lonsdale is
also well known for its amazing Extravs. Extrav is our end of year themed college event held in
Lonsdale for 1,000 people. This year, our Extrav sold out in only a few minutes, showing the demand
for tickets for the biggest night of the year!
For the sporty ones amongst you, Lancaster Uni hosts the weekly sporting inter-college event of
Carter Shield, this consists of everything from rounders to dodgeball. Lonsdale have had a great
record over the last few years in the Carter Shield as well as doing very well in football, netball and
bar sports such as pool and darts. However, there is one event between two colleges in the summer
term which dominates the sporting calendar, Founders Series is the biggest and best sporting
weekend you will experience at Lancaster, the one every other college wishes they were a part of.
