Her door is always open to students who wish to discuss problems—academic or personal—or just pop in for a chat. If you are feeling homesick or have any problem then Juli is your first port of call. Setting into university life can be daunting for many students but rest assured, you are not on your own; we are here to make sure you have the best possible experience and enjoy your new adventure. She is always willing to offer soothing words and a cup of tea! If she can’t sort it out, then she will know someone who can do but be assured your problems will seem lighter after talking them over—all conversations are confidential. You’re more than welcome to drop in at any time with any query. She hopes to meet you all over the course of the year and is happy to discuss any concerns you may have about your accommodation. The College Resident Assistant, Ruth Joyce E-Mail r.joyce@lancaster.ac.uk Tel (01524) (5)92176 Ruth works alongside Tracy (Thursdays and Friday am only) and will be happy to respond to any queries and if she can’t help she will refer you to the person who can. Ruth also works on the Student Based Services enquiry desk (The Base). 4
The College Porters, Arthur, Ben, John and Paul E-Mail lonsdale.porters@lancaster.ac.uk Tel (01524) (5)92250 The Porters have numerous duties helping run the College. The porters are here 24/7 during termtime, sorting mail but are also around if you find yourself locked out of your room. The porters are there for the 1001 questions you may have regarding the College and the university and if they don’t know, they will point you in the right direction. Problems relating to maintenance whether in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen or in your flat in general, should be reported online at https://facilities.lancs.ac.uk/facilitieshelpdesk but if you are unable to access the online service, you can report the problem to the Porter on duty or the Residence Officer. The College Cleaners are friendly and helpful but they do have to work to strict deadlines. You have probably already witnessed the disorder left in the kitchens for them to clear up the next morning. We recommend that you set up a roster for any cleaning tasks, this way, everyone has their fair share of chores. This system has worked very well in most flats, so please make this one of your priorities. 5
