Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 – Required Agreements
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Municipality of Lambton Shores’ enter into an
agreement with Gilpin Funeral Chapel Ltd regarding the
collection of fees for cemetery services, as detailed in CL
Report No. 80 – 2012, and
That By-law 77-2012 authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to sign
the associated contract agreement be approved.
REPORT
At the last meeting, Council considered a report which outlined some of the changes
resulting from the “Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002”, and noted that in
the past, the local Funeral Directors have assisted their Clients and the Municipality by
accepting interment rights fees (cost of the plot), interment fees (burial fee), and grave
opening fee.
In the new Act, this “service” needs to be formalized by agreement, and the sales
representatives need to be designated as “authorized sales representatives”.
Attached is the agreement with Gilpin Funeral Chapel Ltd., which is similar to the
agreement approved last meeting with Denning Funeral Directors Ltd., that will
authorize specified Sales Representatives of Gilpin to continue to accept funds on
behalf of the Municipality.
