Volunteer Appreciation Awards
RECOMMENDATION:
That D.C.S. Report No. 50 – 2012 and the recommendation
contained therein be approved and that staff move forward
with implementation of the Volunteer Appreciation Awards
program for 2012.
REPORT
In April 2012, Council passed the following motion requesting staff to develop a
volunteer recognition program:

That Lambton Shores prepares a volunteer recognition program that includes
internal awards and external awards that citizens are eligible for, and that the
program include deadlines, nomination criteria and a process for submitting
nominations, review and selection guidelines, and a methodology for community
groups to have this information in a timely manner. Carried
Lambton Shores currently hosts an annual Volunteer Recognition Barbeque in
September and has also implemented a Good Neighbour Awards program. The
proposed program is designed to complement the existing volunteer recognition efforts.
The draft Volunteer Appreciation Awards program was developed by researching
existing volunteer awards programs in the City of Vaughan, Town of Newmarket, the
Corporation of the District of Oak Bay, City of Owen Sound, Trent Hills, Medicine Hat,
Town of Ajax, Jefferson County, and the City of Port Coquitlam.
The draft program can be reviewed in ‘Schedule A’ and includes the following award
categories:
1. Accessibility Award: awarded to an individual who has contributed to the
elimination of barriers to people with disabilities, and/or the inclusion of people with
disabilities in all facets of the community.
