Foreword Having been Chairman on the Lake District National Park Partnership since its inception in 2006, I have witnessed, first hand, the development of this exciting new approach to looking after this very special place that is The Lake District National Park. It is the first time this type of approach has been adopted by any of the English National Parks and to have been a part in this is deeply satisfying. The Partnership also owns the Vision for the National Park which importantly means their enthusiasm and commitment to work together and manage the huge variety of issues, pressure and challenges, has been captured. This Partnership’s plan provides the next logical step in documenting and securing this effective joined up approach and all 87 actions contained within it, I believe, are truly indicative of this. More importantly, as it’s a working document reviewed and updated annually, it will remain current and sensitive to the changing environments we now find ourselves in. I now look forward to this next chapter in the life of the Partnership – effective delivery of The Partnership’s Plan. Lord Clark of Windermere Chairman, Lake District National Park Partnership In my role as Chairman of the Lake District National Park Authority, I am delighted and very proud to have been associated with the development of the Partnership Plan. This document represents a significant achievement for partnership working and a radical departure from our traditional management plan. The Lake District National Park Partnership is now five years old and, composed of 23 organisations representative of all interests in the national park. It has successfully met the challenge of developing a strategic and deliverable set of objectives which make up the plan, moving from vision to practical and realistic implementation. The critical difference to previous approaches is that this plan has been prepared and therefore owned by the organisations needed to secure its delivery. Whilst the Lake District National Park Authority acts to facilitate the partnership, we have been engaged as a consultee to the plan in the same way as our partners. Cooperation across the Park with our partners and communities should ensure that a shared commitment and common purpose will underpin our resolve and sharpen our focus to meet the challenges facing us in a new economic climate.
