BPI Building Analyst Certification
New BPI Building Analyst Training and Certification course offers trainees the chance to
take the principles of energy efficiency to the next level by becoming Certified BPI
Building Analysts in a 5-6 day course. BPI Energy Audits are instrumental to identifying
residential problems such as gas and carbon monoxide leaks, poor indoor air quality,
energy inefficiency, and other structural deficiencies. The course covers fundamental
principles of energy and building science through technical instruction on how to optimize
airflow and quality, moisture regulation, lighting appliance energy savings and expertise
in combustion testing and safety. The BPI Building Analyst (BA) class will offer in-class
training on the principles of energy efficiency, the BPI method and an understanding of the
“house-as-a-system” approach as designed by BPI. This class also provides students with
the unparallel opportunity for hands-on field training to apply the fundamental principals
learned in the classroom to an actual residential home while performing a live energy
audit. The blend of classroom and field training will ensure retention of accrued knowledge
through practical implementation of hands-on simulated field models.

HOME ENERGY RATER (HERS)
New Successful completion of this training will satisfy the first two steps required for
RESNET Rater Certification. The course meets the national standard for the
training and certification of energy raters adopted by the Residential Energy Services
Network (RESNET). A task force composed of a broad representation of the energy rating
and building science education communities developed the standard after an extensive
public review and comment process. The class includes a thorough review of basic energy
concepts, field experience with blower door testing and duct blasting, training on the latest
version of rating software, and performing a home energy rating and entering the data into
REM/Rate. To meet RESNET’s new field testing requirements, on day 5 each student will
conduct a field rating and blower door test in the presence of a trainer. Please note that
the third and final step (minimum 3 Probationary Ratings) is to be performed under a
candidate’s HERS Provider and is not included in this course.
