*ARTD 2229 Ceramics–Wheelthrowing. (3) Spring<br />

This course is an introduction to basic wheelthrowing techniques, beginning with centering and<br />

opening, then progressing to pulling basic cylindrical forms, teapots, and bottles. Glazing,<br />

decoration, and firing methods are also included.<br />

ARTD 2271 Beginning Painting. (3) Fall<br />

An introduction to painting with acrylics or oils. Projects will explore the fundamentals of<br />

composition and modeling with color and light, as well as abstraction and mixed media.<br />

Prerequisite: ARTD 1151 (Basic Drawing)<br />

*ARTD 2272 Sculpture I. (3) Spring<br />

The projects in this class will address both traditional and contemporary issues in sculpture, such<br />

as figure modeling, carving, and narrative imagery.<br />

*ARTD 2273 Printmaking I. (3) Fall<br />

A course in the basics of intaglio and relief printmaking techniques, exposure to selected print<br />

and book arts media, and the development of creative imagery.<br />

ARTD 3101 Museum Studies I. (3) Fall<br />

In addition to textbook study, students are actively engaged in the activities of the Lamar Dodd<br />

Art Center: cataloguing the collection, organizing and hanging exhibitions, and overseeing the<br />

gallery‘s daily activities. Students visit area museums not only to view their collections and<br />

special exhibitions, but also to learn from museum personnel about the functioning of a museum.<br />

ARTD 3102 Museum Studies II. (3) Spring<br />

This course traces the history of museums, discusses contemporary practice in museums, and<br />

examines current issues in Museology. It explores the museum‘s mission and its role in society<br />

through case studies and exhibitions in a variety of museums: art, living history, history,<br />

children‘s, and ethnographic.<br />

*ARTD 3103 The Art of Greece and Rome. (3) Spring<br />

This course focuses on the art of Greece and Rome, emphasizing the historical and cultural<br />

context of the works studied.<br />

*ARTD 3105 Art of the Renaissance. (3) Fall<br />

This course focuses on the painting, sculpture, and architecture of the Renaissance, considering<br />

works in their historical and cultural context.<br />

*ARTD 3106 Art of the Baroque. (3) Spring<br />

This course examines works of painting, sculpture, and architecture created in Western Europe<br />

and in the United States during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and explores the cultural<br />

and historical circumstances of their creation.<br />

*ARTD 3107 Art of the Nineteenth Century in Europe and America. (3) Fall<br />

This course focuses on the painting, sculpture, photography, and graphics of the nineteenth<br />

century in Europe and America.<br />
