accepted, candidates may take entering cohort graduate courses the Summer semester following<br />

their junior year of study. Upon gaining senior status, candidates may take one (1) three-credit<br />

graduate course during the Fall, Interim, and Spring semesters only if enrolled with twelve (12)<br />

<strong>undergraduate</strong> credits.<br />

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (MATH)<br />

MATH 0100 Basic Mathematics. (3) Fall and Spring<br />

An introduction to algebra. Topics include instruction in real numbers, graphs, algebraic<br />

expressions, equations, and polynomials.<br />

MATH 1101 <strong>College</strong> Algebra. (3) Fall and Spring<br />

A study of sets, real numbers, operations, order, inequalities, polynomial factoring, functions,<br />

graphs, exponents, first- and second-degree equations, and systems of equations.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 0100 or satisfactory Mathematics placement<br />

recommendation<br />

MATH 1114 Introduction to Statistics. (3) Fall and Spring<br />

An introduction to probability and statistics. Topics include descriptive statistics, probability,<br />

normal probability, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and linear regression.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 1101, 2105, or 2221<br />

MATH 1121 A Survey of Calculus. (3) Fall (even years)<br />

An intuitive introduction, using technology, to the concepts and applications of calculus. Topics<br />

include functions and graphing, tangents to a curve, differentiation and integration, maxima,<br />

minima, and area under<br />

a curve.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 1101 or 2105 or satisfactory Mathematics placement<br />

recommendation<br />

Note: Not open to students who have credit for MATH 2221<br />

MATH 2105 Precalculus. (4) Fall and Spring<br />

A study of calculus-oriented algebra and trigonometry. Topics include simplifying algebraic<br />

expressions, solving equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, applications of functions,<br />

graphs, and the trigonometric functions.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 1101 or satisfactory Mathematics placement<br />

recommendation<br />

MATH 2221 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I. (4) Fall and Spring<br />

An introduction to differentiation and integral calculus. Topics include limits, differentiation and<br />

applications, integration, and the calculus of exponential and logarithmic functions.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 2105 or 1121 (and permission of instructor) or satisfactory<br />

Mathematics placement recommendation<br />
