BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY<br />

The Departments of Business and Accountancy at <strong>LaGrange</strong> <strong>College</strong> are committed to academic<br />

excellence through degree programs designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers in<br />

business. The liberal arts education that students receive at <strong>LaGrange</strong> <strong>College</strong> provides the<br />

foundation for critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills needed for a successful<br />

professional career. The departments seek to enhance the <strong>College</strong>'s liberal arts curriculum by<br />

offering coursework and internship opportunities that give students a fundamental understanding<br />

of business and provide them with the knowledge and skills needed for effective decisionmaking<br />

in a dynamic, global, and technologically-oriented environment.<br />

MISSION STATEMENT<br />

We are dedicated to the development of our students‘ abilities to think critically and<br />

creatively and to the enhancement of their communication skills.<br />

We seek to integrate and extend liberal arts-based values through discussion, discovery, and<br />

reflection based on contemporary business content.<br />

We seek to provide a safe, caring, and ethical place for all our students to grow and mature.<br />

LEARNING OUTCOMES OF OUR PROGRAMS<br />

Upon completion of a degree from the Departments of Business and Accountancy, a student<br />

should be able to:<br />

demonstrate general knowledge and comprehension of business concepts and the ability to<br />

integrate this knowledge.<br />

synthesize and make connections among different ideas, as well as demonstrate the ability to<br />

think creatively and critically, and to formulate logical arguments.<br />

show an intrinsic desire to learn and a curiosity about the world and about business by<br />

actively participating in class, group work, and individual research.<br />

formulate and defend ethical judgments and develop an understanding of individual moral<br />

responsibility, particularly in a group or corporate setting.<br />

communicate in a professional manner, both orally and in writing, using technology<br />

appropriately.<br />

work in teams and demonstrate an understanding of interpersonal relations, and the<br />

leadership and followership processes.<br />
