BTO141 C-Print I<br />

This is a beginning course designed to develop skills in a form of<br />
speech-to-print computer-assisted communication used primarily<br />
by deaf or hard-of-hearing persons. Emphasis will be on the principles<br />
and usage of the C-Print abbreviation system.<br />

BTO142 C-Print II<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course will develop C-Print captioning skills using classroomsimulated<br />
lecture materials. Students will learn condensing strategies<br />
and will develop summarizing skills. Glossary creation and<br />
management along with editing and formatting of keyed notes<br />
will be emphasized. Professional conduct and ethics of the C-Print<br />
captionist are included.<br />

BTO155 Word Processing I<br />
3 credits; 4 hours (3 lecture, 1 lab)<br />
This course introduces students to word processing on the microcomputer.<br />
Through hands-on practice, students will become<br />
proficient in the basic uses of a major word processing software<br />
package. Topics covered include creating, editing, storing,<br />
page formatting, printing, basic merging and performing block<br />
functions using single files.<br />

BTO156 Word Processing II<br />
3 credits; 4 hours (3 lecture, 1 lab)<br />
This course is a continuation of Word Processing I. Emphasis will<br />
be placed on advanced word processing applications on the microcomputer.<br />
Topics will include advanced techniques of creating and<br />
merging files, advanced editing, specialized printing and creating<br />
and using online resources such as thesaurus, math, sort and<br />
macro commands.<br />

BTO170 Computerized Medical Information Management<br />
3 credits; 4 hours (3 lecture; 1 lab)<br />
This course will provide students with instruction in the preparation<br />
and maintenance of medical records, financial recordkeeping,<br />
patient and insurance billing and processing of insurance forms<br />
and claims. It will provide students with a brief history of the<br />
medical profession, acquainting students with various medical<br />
laws and codes of ethics as they relate to medical office support<br />
personnel. This course will be enhanced by the use of medical software<br />
and a medical office simulation project.<br />

BTO260 Business Communications<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course provides students with the ability to exercise various<br />
communication tasks in business. Special consideration will be<br />
given to the mechanics of written English. Written activities will<br />
focus on memos, business letters, reports, and special communications<br />
(news releases and minutes). Oral communication will be<br />
refined and telephone skills will be emphasized.<br />

BTO270 Electronic Office Procedures<br />
3 credits; 6 hours<br />
Business skills such as word processing and machine transcription<br />
will be developed, integrated, and refined. Human relations skills,<br />
interoffice relationships, and organizational structure will be<br />
covered through job-related projects. Basic filing rules, mail<br />
procedures and telephone techniques will be discussed. Hands-on<br />
training will be conducted in payroll processing, electronic record<br />
keeping, electronic calendaring and filing.<br />

Aviation Management<br />
BTV160 Introduction to Aviation Business<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course provides a general survey of the field of aviation. The<br />
course includes a historical overview of the development of aviation<br />
and an analysis of aviation’s impact on economic and sociological<br />
affairs, both nationally and internationally. Students survey<br />
various aspects of the aviation business community including air<br />
carriers, manufacturers, private aircraft operators, government<br />
agencies and trade associations.<br />

BTV161 Introduction to Aviation Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course provides a comprehensive analysis of the planning<br />
process and the managerial and operations functions pertaining<br />
to management of an airport. The course will cover the following<br />
topics: airports in general, airport system planning, site selection,<br />
layout and land use, airport capacity and delay, financial planning<br />
and management and airport operations. This course explores the<br />
role of the airport manager in the day-to-day and long-term management<br />
and operations of the airport.<br />

BTV162 Introduction to Aviation Operations<br />

This course explores the conduct of professional flight operations,<br />
including the flight operations of air carriers, corporate aviation<br />
