Authorization/Appropriation<br />

H.R. 889 – Rep. Don Young (R-At Large-AK), 04/07/<strong>2005</strong> –<br />

Reported by the committee to the full House for consideration on<br />

07/29/<strong>2005</strong>. Authorize appropriations for the Coast Guard for<br />

FY06, to make technical corrections for various laws administered<br />

by the Coast Guard.<br />

H.R. 1815 – Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-52-CA), 04/26/<strong>2005</strong> – Passed<br />

by full House and referred to the Senate 06/06/<strong>2005</strong>. Authorize<br />

appropriations for FY 2006 for military activities of DoD, to prescribe<br />

military personnel strengths for FY06 and for other purposes.<br />

H.R. 2528 – Rep. James T. Walsh (R-25-NY), 05/26/<strong>2005</strong> – Passed<br />

the House. Making appropriations for military quality of life functions<br />

of the DoD, military construction, the Dept. of <strong>Veterans</strong><br />

Affairs and related agencies.<br />

S. 1042 – Sen. John <strong>War</strong>ner (R-VA), 06/02/<strong>2005</strong> – Reported by the<br />

Senate Committee on Armed Services. To authorize appropriations<br />

for FY06 for military activities by the DoD, for military construction,<br />

and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe<br />

personnel strengths and for other purposes.<br />

S. 1280 – Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) – Senate Committee on<br />

Commerce, Science and Transportation passed bill and referred to<br />

full Senate 07/28/<strong>2005</strong>. Authorize appropriations for fiscal years<br />

2006 and 2007 for the United States Coast Guard.<br />

Defense<br />

H.R. 97 – Rep. Sam Graves (R-6-MO), 01/04/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

House Committee on <strong>Veterans</strong> Affairs. Establish requirements with<br />

respect to the terms of consumer credit extended by a creditor to a<br />

service member or the dependent of a service member.<br />

H.R. 771 – Rep. Edward Markey (D-7-MA), 02/10/<strong>2005</strong> –<br />

Referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means. Amend<br />

Title 37, US Code, to require that a member of the uniformed services<br />

who is wounded or otherwise injured while serving in a combat<br />

zone continue to be paid monthly military pay and allowances,<br />

while the member recovers from the wound or injury, at least equal<br />

to the monthly military pay and allowances the member received<br />

immediately before receiving the wound or injury, and to continue<br />

the combat zone tax exclusion for the member during the recovery<br />

period.<br />

H.R. 1406 – Rep. Tom Latham (R-4-IA), 03/17/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

House Committee on Armed Services. Amend Title 37, US Code,<br />

to increase the authorized weight allowances for the shipment of<br />

baggage and household effects of senior noncommissioned officers<br />

of the uniformed services.<br />

H.R. 2874 – Rep. Harold E. Ford (D-9-TN), 06/14/<strong>2005</strong> –<br />

Referred to House Committee on Government Reform. A bill to<br />

provide for a program under which postal benefits shall be made<br />

available for purposes of certain personal correspondence and<br />

other mail matter sent from within the United States to members of<br />

the Armed Forces serving on active duty abroad who are engaged<br />

in military operations.<br />

H.R. 3200 – Rep. Jeff Miller (R-1-FL), 07/26/<strong>2005</strong> – Passed by<br />

Full House and passed to Senate. Amend title 38 U.S. Code, to<br />

enhance the Service Members’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program.<br />

S. 11 – Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), 01/24/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to the<br />

Senate Committee on Finance. Amend Title 10, US Code, to<br />

ensure that the strength of the Armed Forces and the protections<br />

and benefits for members of the Armed Forces and their families<br />

are adequate for keeping the commitment of the people of the<br />

United States to support their service members, and for other purposes.<br />

Guard & Reserve<br />

H.R. 558 – Rep. Tom Latham (R-4-IA), 02/02/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

the House Committee on Armed Services. Amend Title 10, US<br />

Code, to revise the age and service requirements for eligibility to<br />

receive retired pay for non-regular (Guard & Reserve) service.<br />

H.R. 783 – Rep. Jim Saxton (R-3-NJ), 2/10/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

House Committee on Armed Services. Amend Title 10, US Code,<br />

to reduce the age for receipt of military retired pay for non-regular<br />

service from 60 to 55.<br />

S. 1142 – Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), 05/26/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

the Senate Committee on Finance. Provide pay protection for<br />

members of the Reserve and National Guard (Hope at Home Act).<br />

S. 32 – Sen. Mark Dayton (D-MN), 01/24/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to the<br />

Senate Committee on Armed Services. Enhance the benefits and<br />

protections for members of the reserve components of the Armed<br />

Forces who are called or ordered to extend active duty, and for<br />

other purposes.<br />

S. 38 – Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), 01/24/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to the<br />

Senate Committee on Finance. Enhance and improve benefits for<br />

members of the National Guard and Reserves who serve extended<br />

periods on active duty, and for other purposes.<br />

S. 337 – Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), 02/09/<strong>2005</strong> – Referred to<br />

the Senate Committee on Armed Services. Amend Title 10, US<br />

Code, to revise the age and service requirements for eligibility to<br />

receive retired pay for non-regular service, to expand certain<br />

authorities to provide health care benefits for Reserves and their<br />

families, and for other purposes.<br />
