Chapter 170 visits West Po<strong>in</strong>t<br />

the area where the British ships tried to<br />

cross, only to be stopped by a huge cha<strong>in</strong><br />

across the Hudson River. George<br />

Wash<strong>in</strong>gton and his generals planned well<br />

for the defense of West Po<strong>in</strong>t. This is the<br />

area where Benedict Arnold’s treacherous<br />

betrayal of his country took place.<br />

The chapter members enjoyed the day at<br />

the United States Military Academy at<br />

West Po<strong>in</strong>t.<br />

Taejon Chapter 170 took a patriotic<br />

trip to West Po<strong>in</strong>t and honored the<br />

cadets as they marched across the<br />

parade grounds. The event was the 35th<br />

Annual Retiree Appreciation Day, as they<br />

honored military personnel retir<strong>in</strong>g—and<br />

the graduation cadet class of 1959. They<br />

stood on the sidel<strong>in</strong>e as the 2009 cadets<br />

marched by honor<strong>in</strong>g them.<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g the cadet parade, the cadet<br />

parachute team demonstrated their skill<br />

by jump<strong>in</strong>g and land<strong>in</strong>g on a marked target<br />

on the field. At the conclusion, the<br />

<strong>in</strong>vited crowd, which <strong>in</strong>cluded our chapter,<br />

enjoyed a lunch with a cadet assigned to<br />

each table of ten persons.<br />

Falato led a busload of fifty Korean War<br />

veterans and family members to this prestigious<br />

event. Attend<strong>in</strong>g were <strong>KWVA</strong> New<br />

Jersey State Commander George Bruzgis,<br />

Post Commander Dr. Richard Onorevole,<br />

and a cont<strong>in</strong>gent of chapter members.<br />

Activity Chairman William Burns planned<br />

the trip and visit to the West Po<strong>in</strong>t<br />

Museum. Exhibited were artifacts from<br />

West Po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>in</strong> the 1700s. Also featured<br />

were uniforms, helmets, guns, WWI<br />

items, historical military items, and too<br />

many other items to mention. A visit to the<br />

West Po<strong>in</strong>t Museum is well worth the trip.<br />

Visitors can feel the history as they journey<br />

through the West Po<strong>in</strong>t grounds and<br />
