HILL WITH NO NAME<br />

On a cold wet day<br />
In the fall of fifty one<br />
On a hill with no name<br />
We had a job which had to be done<br />
Rations were gone<br />
Leadership was young<br />
We all prayed through the night<br />
Hoping to see the rising sun<br />
<strong>The</strong> night was long<br />
<strong>The</strong> causalities were high<br />
Later the guns were quiet<br />
It made you want to cry<br />
One night of this torture<br />
Was hard to bear<br />
As the night approached morn<br />
Some seemed not to care<br />
<strong>The</strong> captains were gone<br />
<strong>The</strong> sergeants were too<br />
A call came saying<br />
It’s all up to you<br />
Wounded with shrapnel<br />
Sometime during the night<br />
Made you more determined<br />
To stand up and fight<br />
Replacements were slow<br />
Help came too late<br />
For the ones left behind<br />
Only God knew their fate<br />
Two days had passed<br />
With no help in sight<br />
We all prayed together<br />
For another quiet night<br />
As we pulled back<br />
We thought we were free<br />
Fire came from the hilltop<br />
It was hard to believe<br />
Fire came from a faraway hill<br />
<strong>The</strong> enemy we could not see<br />
<strong>The</strong> wounded were crying<br />
Please, please help me<br />
Two more days passed<br />
My wounds were sore<br />
Hungry tired and cold<br />
We thought we could take no more<br />
Dig in boys<br />
Were the orders that night<br />
Prepare for the worst<br />
This could be out toughest fight<br />
<strong>The</strong> night was dark<br />
<strong>The</strong> air was cold<br />
We’ll do what we can<br />
<strong>The</strong> comrades were told<br />
Daybreak was nearing<br />
We welcomed the sun<br />
<strong>The</strong> night was quiet<br />
We thought we had won<br />
<strong>The</strong> troops were young<br />
Which was no fault of mine<br />
We did what we could<br />
But we were down to nine<br />
A loud boom was heard<br />
Not to my surprise<br />
It came in close<br />
Wounding my chest, arms and eyes<br />
<strong>The</strong> morning sun was shining<br />
But to me darkness came<br />
I was helped by my buddies<br />
From the hill with no name<br />
<strong>The</strong> hospital stay<br />
Was a long hard fight<br />
Still trying to forget<br />
What happened that night<br />
<strong>The</strong> heart was presented<br />
In a place not known to me<br />
Hoping and praying<br />
That some day 1 might see<br />
Thoughts of those days<br />
Are always on my mind<br />
Hoping that someday<br />
My buddies I might find.<br />
