The forest engineering
test marks

The test mark “KWF Utility Value” is
awarded to forest machinery and equipment
that has passed the extensive KWF
tests. The mark signifies that these
products comply with current technological
requirements with regard to cost
effectiveness, occupational safety, ergonomics
and environmental compatibility.
The tests include technical measurements,
field tests and utility surveys. Positive
results are passed on to the relevant test
committee for final approval. Where
necessary, the committee advises on
necessary improvements.
Reports of successful test are published in the
“KWF Test Index” as well as on the KWF website
(www.kwf-online.de). KWF will also send individual
test reports on request. Each report contains the test
results and a “Brief evaluation”, as well as additional
information about the range of application and the
main uses.
The “KWF Utility Value” test mark was introduced in
2003, replacing the previous FPA mark (FPA =
Forsttechnischer Prüfausschuss or forest technology
test committee) the trademark for tested
forest equipment for over 50 years! The
scope of the new mark is identical, but
the KWF logo points to the responsible
test centre.

KWF-Test
The “KWF Test” mark is awarded to
products when a particular technical
attribute has been tested successfully,
for example, measuring accuracy in
harvesters, tyre inflation control system
functionality, environmental stress
resistance of portable data collecting
devices, chainsaw fuel standard rating
compliance.

KWF also awards this mark to successfully
tested non-professional forest
equipment, for example: hobby and
semi-professional chainsaws, chainsaw
protective chaps, protective apparel for arborists.
The tested attribute and the month and year of the
test are displayed on the mark. In addition to this, the
test report containing the relevant information about
the tested attribute and the results is published by
KWF (www.kwf-online.de).
Occupational Safety
All technical work equipment must carry the CE mark
to show that the product complies with basic safety
requirements and relevant regulations. KWF provides
consultancy for manufacturers and users and carries
out type examination tests.
Products that comply with relevant occupational
safety standards may be labelled with the GS or
EuroTest marks. KWF is a notified GS test facility
offering EuroTest and GS tests.
KWF also works closely with the following members
of the German Test Facility for Agricultural and Forest
Equipment when dealing with forest equipment for
farm use and in all questions related to occupational
safety: the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and
their test centre in Groß-Umstadt and the German
Association of Agricultural Employers Safety
Organizations (BLB) in Kassel.
