the CaNadiaN CeNtre <strong>for</strong> <strong>Child</strong> proteCtioN is a national charitable organization<br />
dedicated to the personal safety of all children. Our goal is to reduce child<br />
victimization by providing programs and services to the <strong>Canadian</strong> public.<br />
Our mission is to:<br />
f reduce the incidence of missing and sexually exploited children<br />
f Educate the public on child personal safety and sexual exploitation<br />
f Assist in the location of missing children<br />
f Advocate <strong>for</strong> and increase awareness about issues relating to child sexual<br />
exploitation<br />
The <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> operates three core programs:<br />
Canada’s tipline <strong>for</strong> reporting online child sexual exploitation,<br />
in particular child pornography (child sexual abuse material),<br />
online luring, children exploited through prostitution, travelling<br />
sex offenders, and child trafficking.<br />
A safety education program designed to empower children<br />
and reduce their risk of victimization. The program focuses<br />
on building self-esteem by teaching critical problem-solving<br />
skills, and uses a community-based approach to heighten<br />
awareness of child safety and protection strategies. kids<br />
in the know includes a curriculum <strong>for</strong> teachers, as well as<br />
supplementary in<strong>for</strong>mation on dealing with disclosure of<br />
abuse, training programs, books and puppets, games, and<br />
online activities <strong>for</strong> families.<br />
A program to help child-serving organizations create safe<br />
environments <strong>for</strong> children. Commit to kids provides strategies,<br />
policies, and step-by-step tools to help organizations reduce<br />
the risk of sexual abuse and protect children in their care.<br />
Public awareness and education are integrated into all of the work we do. we also<br />
provide missing children services in manitoba as <strong>Child</strong> Find manitoba.<br />
Cybertip.Ca iS CaNada’S tipliNe <strong>for</strong> reportiNg the oNliNe <strong>Sexual</strong><br />
exploitatioN of <strong>Child</strong>reN. in particular, the tipline accepts reports relating to<br />
child sexual abuse material, online luring, children exploited through prostitution,<br />
travelling sex offenders, and child trafficking. Cybertip.ca was launched as a<br />
provincial pilot program in September 2002, and in may 2004, along with the<br />
rCmP’s National <strong>Child</strong> Exploitation Coordination <strong>Centre</strong>, became part of the<br />
government of Canada’s National Strategy to Protect <strong>Child</strong>ren from <strong>Sexual</strong><br />
Exploitation on the internet.<br />
in addition to accepting and <strong>for</strong>warding child sexual exploitation reports,<br />
Cybertip.ca provides education and awareness material to help keep <strong>Canadian</strong>s<br />
safe. Prevention material is developed in conjunction with public reports to the<br />
tipline and research on effective education strategies.<br />
Cybertip.ca's mandate is to protect children from online sexual exploitation by:<br />
f receiving and analyzing tips from the public about potentially illegal material,<br />
as well as activities regarding the online sexual exploitation of children, and<br />
referring any relevant leads to the appropriate law en<strong>for</strong>cement agency.<br />
f Providing the public with in<strong>for</strong>mation and other resources, as well as support<br />
and referral services, to help <strong>Canadian</strong>s keep themselves and their families<br />
safe while using the internet.<br />
Cybertip.ca contributes to public education and prevention through its online<br />
safety strategies and national awareness campaigns.<br />
